ReviewMultilevel Determinants of Palliative Care Referral in Women with Advanced Ovarian Cancer: A Scoping Review.
Receipt of palliative care (PC) has long been suggested in practice for patients with advanced cancer for improved quality of life, mood, and prolonged survival. However, PC referrals in women with ovarian cancer remain suboptimal. ⋯ Various factors in the socioecological framework suggest that the decision for PC referral could be multifactorial and influenced by factors beyond the medical condition and status. Future research should aim to understand the impact of various socioecological factors on PC referral and examine PC referral experiences from the patient's perspective.

ReviewParents' experiences of being involved in medical decision-making for their child with a life-limiting condition: A systematic review with narrative synthesis.
Parental involvement in the decision-making processes about medical treatment for children with life-limiting conditions is recognised as good practice. Previous research highlighted factors affecting the decision-making process, but little is known about how parents experience their participation. ⋯ Parental experiences with decision-making are complex and multifactorial. Parents' ability to effectively participate in the process is limited, as they are not empowered to do so and the circumstances in which the decisions are taking place are challenging. Healthcare professionals need to support parental involvement in an effective way instead of just formally asking them to participate.

Partly unequal receipt of healthcare in last month of life in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: a retrospective cohort study of the Stockholm region.
In amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), equal care is important, given that the disease often has complex symptoms at the end of life. ⋯ This register study shows that receipt of SPC in patients with ALS is equal in relation to gender, socioeconomic standing, frailty, and age <75 years, while those ≥75 years, with dementia, or residing in NH were somewhat less likely to receive SPC. Receipt of SPC reduces ER visits and acute hospital admissions.

Context: Despite the increased number of people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (PLWD), limited early palliative care interventions exist for this population. Adapting promising interventions for other progressive disease conditions may address this need. Few published studies have examined this topic using recognized adaptation frameworks. ⋯ The prioritization matrix was very useful in guiding additional intervention refinements, incorporating suggestions deemed highly important and improving the clarity of SUPPORT-D™. Conclusion: Adapting existing interventions for use by PLWD and caregivers is a practical approach that can increase the speed of translation of applicable and effective interventions used in other populations. Early feedback, prioritized using a matrix, helped further refine the initial adaptation.

ReviewApplied patient-level palliative care interventions designed to meet the needs of sexual and gender minorities: A scoping review and qualitative content analysis of how to support sexual and gender minorities at end of life.
Sexual and gender minorities experience considerable health disparities across the life span. End of life presents unique challenges for this population, further exacerbating existing disparities. ⋯ This review responds to a need to improve palliative care delivery for sexual and gender minorities. Recommendations derived from these interventions, including how to center and advocate for sexual and gender minorities at end of life, can be applied by any interdisciplinary palliative care provider.
