Multicenter Study Observational StudyChanges in perception of prognosis in the last year of life of patients with advanced cancer and its associated factors: Longitudinal results of the eQuiPe study.
Many patients with advanced cancer are unaware of their limited prognosis, however little is known about the change in awareness during the last year of their lives. ⋯ Becoming aware of their limited prognosis may make patients with advanced cancer more receptive to start end-of-life discussions. Although some patients prefer not to know their prognosis, it remains important to respectfully explore their preferences and wishes for end-of-life care.

Health Utility of Pain Response Versus Nonresponse to Palliative Radiation Therapy for Symptomatic Bone Metastases: Analyses Based on Real-World Data from 26 Centers.
Background: Utility values of responders and nonresponders are essential inputs in cost-effectiveness studies of radiation therapy for painful bone metastases but, to our knowledge, they have not been reported separately. Objective: We sought to determine the utility values of responders and nonresponders using data from a prospective observational study on bone metastases. Methods: The original prospective observational study was conducted at 26 centers in Japan. ⋯ Conclusion: We determined utility values for responders and nonresponders. Pain response was associated with better QOL and less opioid use. Our utility values according to response status can be used for model input in future cost-effectiveness studies on radiation therapy for bone metastases.

Assessment of the efficacy of palliative sedation in advanced cancer patients by evaluating discomfort levels: a prospective, international, multicenter observational study.
Palliative sedation involves the intentional proportional lowering of the level of consciousness in patients with life-limiting disease who are experiencing refractory suffering. The efficacy of palliative sedation needs to be monitored to ensure patient comfort. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy using discomfort levels combined with sedation/agitation levels. ⋯ The efficacy of palliative sedation can be evaluated by measuring discomfort levels combined with sedation/agitation levels. The measurement of discomfort levels might provide a more specific and detailed evaluation of adequate sedation.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyPredictors of Specialty Outpatient Palliative Care Utilization Among Persons with Serious Illness.
Outpatient Palliative Care (OPC) benefits persons living with serious illness, yet barriers exist in utilization. ⋯ Efforts to improve OPC utilization should focus on those with lower education, more functional limitations, older age, female sex, and those with less social support. Trial Registration ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03325985.
