Background: Patients receiving dialysis have unmet palliative care needs. Limited access to palliative care is a key barrier to its integration into routine dialysis care. Objective: To determine the feasibility and acceptability of telepalliative care in rural dialysis units. ⋯ Eighty-one percent of patients felt the appointment was relevant to them, 58% felt they learned new things about their condition, and 27% reported the appointment changed the way they think about dialysis. Discussion: Telepalliative care is acceptable to patients receiving dialysis and is a feasible approach to integrating palliative care in rural dialysis units. The study was registered with Clinicaltrials.gov (NCT03744117).

ReviewThe use of telemedicine for home-based palliative care for children with serious illness: a scoping review.

Evidence to guide optimal design and delivery of TM HBPC is urgently needed. ⋯ TM HBPC is a promising strategy to increase access to palliative care for children with serious illness. However, the current review found a need for more robust information describing implementation and effectiveness of TM HBPC models, adaptation across care settings, and maintenance over time to guide and facilitate broader dissemination.

Background: Integrated palliative care in oncology service has been widely implemented in Hong Kong since 2006. Aim: The study aimed to review its impact on end-of-life outcomes and overall survival (OS) of cancer patients, as well as its utilization of health care resources in the past 10 years. Design: Cancer deaths of all 43 public hospitals of Hong Kong were screened. ⋯ Conclusion: Our results suggested palliative care has played a role in the remarkable improvement in end-of-life outcomes and OS. However, current palliative care model relied heavily on hospital resources. Future work is needed to strengthen community care and to build up quality monitoring systems.
