Observational Study
Assessment of readability, reliability, and quality of ChatGPT®, BARD®, Gemini®, Copilot®, Perplexity® responses on palliative care.
There is no study that comprehensively evaluates data on the readability and quality of "palliative care" information provided by artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots ChatGPT®, Bard®, Gemini®, Copilot®, Perplexity®. Our study is an observational and cross-sectional original research study. In our study, AI chatbots ChatGPT®, Bard®, Gemini®, Copilot®, and Perplexity® were asked to present the answers of the 100 questions most frequently asked by patients about palliative care. ⋯ Of the 5 AI chatbots whose answers about palliative care were evaluated, Bard®, Copilot®, Perplexity®, ChatGPT®, Gemini®, their current answers were found to be well above the recommended levels in terms of readability of text content. Text content quality assessment scores are also low. Both the quality and readability of texts should be brought to appropriate recommended limits.

ReviewEffectiveness of music therapy, aromatherapy, and massage therapy on people in palliative care with end-of-life needs: A systematic review.
Music therapy, aromatherapy and massage therapy are widely used in palliative care in patients near end-of-life with the aim to reduce symptom burden and improve quality of life (QoL). Recent research shows an increase in popularity and use of complementary and integrative medicine however a more thorough evidence base about their usefulness is required. ⋯ Main results found that music and massage therapy had the most potential benefits on a range of outcome parameters, including pain and QoL. Future studies may consider using more qualitative and/or mixed methods to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of treatment.

Stepped Palliative Care for Patients With Advanced Lung Cancer: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
Despite the evidence for early palliative care improving outcomes, it has not been widely implemented in part due to palliative care workforce limitations. ⋯ A stepped-care model, with palliative care visits occurring only at key points in patients' cancer trajectories and using a decrement in QOL to trigger more intensive palliative care exposure, resulted in fewer palliative care visits without diminishing the benefits for patients' QOL. While stepped palliative care was associated with fewer days in hospice, it is a more scalable way to deliver early palliative care to enhance patient-reported outcomes.

Outpatient Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) for the Palliative Care Patient.
This study explores the under-researched domain of patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) for cancer pain management in adult outpatients, focusing on the transition from patient-controlled analgesia pumps (PCA pump) to oral medications. While existing literature primarily addresses the use of PCA in inpatient settings, this descriptive study investigates the initiation of outpatient PCA in palliative care patients. The retrospective chart review includes data from all admissions between July 1, 2014, and December 31, 2020. ⋯ Of these patients, 13 were successfully transitioned from outpatient PCA to oral opioids. The study underscores the effective use of PCA as a transitional tool following a pain crisis that necessitates inpatient admission. Future research avenues could explore healthcare utilization, length of stay, and required outpatient resources, such as home visits or telehealth, for optimal PCA use in outpatient settings.
