As the global neurosurgical workforce expands, so do the contributions of women neurosurgeons. Recent studies highlighted pioneering women leaders in neurosurgery and provided invaluable perspectives into the proportion of women neurosurgeons in regions across the world. To provide a broad perspective of global trends, this study aims to characterize the global female neurosurgical workforce and evaluate its association with countries' economic status, broader physician workforce, and global gender gap index (GGGI). ⋯ Much progress has been made in expanding the neurosurgical workforce and the proportion of women within it, but disparities remain. As we address the global neurosurgeon deficit, improving recruitment and retention of women neurosurgeons through mentorship, collaboration, and structural support is essential.

To study the efficacy of irrigation with artificial cerebrospinal fluid (aCSF) for protection of cranial nerves during surgery; the time required for recovery of brainstem auditory-evoked potentials (BAEPs) that would reflect cochlear function was analyzed in comparison with that for saline irrigation. ⋯ aCSF is effective for protection of cochlear nerve and promotes recovery from transient dysfunction during surgery. The protective effect may be attributed to multiple factors including conditioned pH, electrolyte composition, glucose, and microelements, such as magnesium and phosphate.

Treatment of primary vaginal malignant melanoma and review of previous literature: A case report.
Primary vaginal malignant melanoma is a rare gynecological malignant tumor with high malignancy and poor prognosis. Because of its insidious incidence, it is generally diagnosed in the late stage, and the 5-year survival rate is only 5% to 25%. Due to the rarity of this disease and the limited number of related cases reported in the literature, there is currently no unified standard for its diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, the treatment of this disease has always been a difficult problem in clinical practice. ⋯ The treatment of primary vaginal malignant melanoma is still dominated by surgery, while radiotherapy and chemotherapy are controversial. Immunotherapy and targeted therapy highlight certain advantages in advanced patients, which still need to be verified by large sample studies, We provide a case of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for vaginal malignant melanoma. So far, no signs of disease recurrence have been found. As the price of chemotherapy drugs decreases, it is economically convenient and acceptable for most patients, but its effectiveness needs to be observed in large-scale clinical trials.

At present, acute myelitis (AM) is a great challenge to diagnosis and treatment because of its complicated etiology, critical condition, and poor prognosis, and it is easy to leave different degrees of limb motor dysfunction. The report of this case is helpful to improve the understanding of AM after lumbar surgery, reduce misdiagnosis and provide reference for clinical treatment. ⋯ Due to the rarity of AM in clinical work, it is easy for doctors to ignore the disease and miss the best treatment stage, which will lead to serious sequelae.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Implementation of holistic nursing interventions based on fast track surgery concept in patients with lower extremity arterial occlusive disease.
Lower Extremity Arterial Occlusive Disease (LEAOD) is a prevalent condition affecting many patients worldwide, which requires careful management and patient cooperation. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of holistic nursing interventions based on the Fast Track Surgery (FTS) concept in patients with LEAOD. A retrospective analysis of 92 LEAOD patients, randomized into control and experimental groups, was performed. ⋯ Further, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores indicated significantly better sleep quality over time in the experimental group than in the control group (P < .05). The implementation of holistic nursing interventions based on the FTS concept significantly improved patient adherence and sleep quality in LEAOD patients. These findings highlight the potential benefits of integrating such interventions in the management of LEAOD patients, potentially enhancing postoperative recovery and overall health outcomes.
