To present comprehensive information on the clinicopathological, molecular, survival characteristics, and quality of life (QOL) after surgery for solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) of the pancreas in a large cohort after long-term follow-up. ⋯ This study presented the largest cohort of patients with SPN after surgery from a single center and reported the QOL of these patients. SPN is associated with extremely favorable long-term survival, even in patients with metastasis, and most patients have a good QOL after surgery.

Lobar and multilobar disconnections have gradually become common surgical methods in pediatric epilepsy surgery in recent years. However, the surgical procedures, postoperative epilepsy outcomes, and complications reported by each center are quite different. To review and analyze the clinical data from lobar disconnection in treating intractable pediatric epilepsy and study the characteristics, surgical outcomes, and safety of different disconnection surgeries. ⋯ The most common etiology of epilepsy in children undergoing lobar disconnection is MCD, whose onset and operative ages are the youngest. Disconnection surgery obtained good seizure outcomes in the treatment of pediatric epilepsy with a low incidence of long-term complications. With advances in presurgical evaluation, disconnection surgery will play a more important role in young children with intractable epilepsy.

Clinical registries are critical for modern surgery and underpin outcomes research, device monitoring, and trial development. However, existing approaches to registry construction are labor-intensive, costly, and prone to manual error. Natural language processing techniques combined with electronic health record (EHR) data sets can theoretically automate the construction and maintenance of registries. Our aim was to automate the generation of a spine surgery registry at an academic medical center using regular expression (regex) classifiers developed by neurosurgeons to combine domain expertise with interpretable algorithms. ⋯ This study demonstrates the feasibility of automatically generating a spine registry using the EHR and an interpretable, customizable natural language processing algorithm which may reduce pitfalls associated with manual registry development and facilitate rapid clinical research.

Surgery and Anesthesia in Patients with Pulmonary Hypertension.
Pulmonary hypertension is characterized by right ventricular impairment and a reduced ability to compensate for hemodynamic insults. Consequently, surgery can be challenging but is increasingly considered in view of available specific therapies and improved longer term survival. ⋯ The optimal pathway involves risk:benefit assessment for the proposed operation, optimization of pulmonary hypertension and any comorbidities, the appropriate anesthetic approach for the specific procedure and patient, and careful monitoring and management in the postoperative period. Where patients are carefully selected and meticulously managed, good outcomes can be achieved.

Retrospective study. ⋯ The VBQ score was an influential factor associated with lumbar pedicle screw loosening, and a higher VBQ score was significantly correlated with a higher risk of screw loosening. The VBQ score was a better predictor of pedicle screw loosening than the HU value in patients who underwent pedicle screw fixation for degenerative lumbar disease.
