Randomized Controlled Trial
Effect of colchicine on perioperative atrial fibrillation and myocardial injury after non-cardiac surgery in patients undergoing major thoracic surgery (COP-AF): an international randomised trial.
Higher levels of inflammatory biomarkers are associated with an increased risk of perioperative atrial fibrillation and myocardial injury after non-cardiac surgery (MINS). Colchicine is an anti-inflammatory drug that might reduce the incidence of these complications. ⋯ Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Accelerating Clinical Trials Consortium, Innovation Fund of the Alternative Funding Plan for the Academic Health Sciences Centres of Ontario, Population Health Research Institute, Hamilton Health Sciences, Division of Cardiology at McMaster University, Canada; Hanela Foundation, Switzerland; and General Research Fund, Research Grants Council, Hong Kong.

Meta Analysis
Comparison of UPDRS III score between young and late onset Parkinson disease after deep brain stimulation: A meta-analysis.
Parkinson disease (PD) is a common age-related neurodegenerative disease. Subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a safe and effective surgical treatment for medically resistant advanced PD. However, the relationship between the age at PD onset and the efficacy of subthalamic nucleus DBS surgery remains unclear. Thus, we conducted a meta-analysis to compare motor symptom improvements after DBS for the treatment of young-onset and late-onset PD. ⋯ The efficacy of DBS in patients with YOPD and LOPD showed similar improvements in the UPDRS score; hence, DBS should be considered, if necessary, regardless of the onset age of PD.

Sucking lollipop after awakening from sevoflurane anesthesia reduces the degree of emergence agitation in children undergoing ambulatory surgery: A prospective randomized controlled trial.
Emergence agitation (EA) is a common complication in pediatric anesthesia, especially in preschool children maintained by sevoflurane, with incidence ranging up to 80%. The purpose of the study was to determine whether sucking lollipop after awakening from sevoflurane anesthesia reduced the degree of EA in children undergoing ambulatory surgery. ⋯ Sucking lollipop after awakening from sevoflurane anesthesia reduced the degree EA in children undergoing ambulatory surgery.

Review Case Reports
A case report of phacolytic glaucoma in lens cortex behind posterior capsule: A CARE-compliant article.
Phacolytic glaucoma (PLG), a secondary open-angle glaucoma caused by high molecular weight proteins leaking through the capsule of a hypermature cataract. Leakage of liquefied lens cortex behind the posterior capsule is rare. In this paper, we review a case of phacolytic glaucoma in the lens cortex behind posterior capsule. ⋯ This case reported a patient with phacolytic glaucoma in the lens cortex behind posterior capsule who underwent successful surgery, indicating spontaneous capsule rupture can occur in the posterior capsules in PLG and when this situation is detected during the operation, the posterior capsule tearing method can be applied to absorb the lens cortex sticking at the posterior surface of the posterior capsule.

Treatment of esophageal burns may require surgical transplantation (interposition) of the colon or stomach. The interposed parts change their function and morphology. To investigate the macro- and microchanges in the transplanted colonic segment we analyzed in long-term follow-up (up to 29 years) the group of 21 patients in a retrospective study who underwent surgical interposition of pedicled colonic right half segments for esophageal burns. ⋯ We concluded macrooesophagization developed gradually after surgery, and was fully developed after 15 to 20 years. Microoesophagization appeared soon after interposition, and was obvious after 5 years. No metaplasia or dysplasia were observed (except in 1 patient), and the number of goblet cell remained constant.
