To measure the incidence of intraoperative hypotension (IOH) during surgery in ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and describe associated characteristics of patients and procedures. ⋯ There was substantial occurrence of IOH in ASCs, similar to that described in academic hospital settings in previous literature. We hypothesize that this may reflect clinician preference not to intervene in perceived healthy patients or assumptions about ability to tolerate lower blood pressures on behalf of these patients. Future research will determine whether IOH in ACSs is associated with adverse outcomes to the same extent as described in more complex hospital-based surgeries.

Although female neurosurgery residents are increasing, women remain underrepresented in academic leadership. ⋯ Without publicly available, self-identified gender designation for each resident, we were limited to review/designate gender based on male-presenting/female-presenting status from gender conventions of names/appearance. Although not an ideal measurement, this helped show that during neurosurgical residency, male residents publish significantly more than female counterparts. Given similar preresidency h- indices and publication records, this is unlikely explained by differences in academic aptitude. In-residency gender barriers to academic productivity must be acknowledged and addressed to improve female representation within academic neurosurgery.

Within Finish culture is a strong tradition of sauna bathing. This special environment predisposes the persons refreshing in the sauna to different kind of burns with varying etiologies. Despite the high prevalence of sauna related burns in Finland, there is paucity on the sauna related burns literature. ⋯ Sauna contact burns are common, and despite their small size, they frequently cause deep injuries indicating operative treatment. There is a clear male predominance in the patient population. Most probably the cultural aspects of sauna bathing at summer cottages explain the strong seasonal variation in the incidence of these burns. The long latency between initial injury and presentation at the Helsinki Burn Centre should be highlighted to health care centres and central hospitals.

Describe the diagnostic workup and postoperative results for patients treated by adrenalectomy for primary aldosteronism in France from 2010 to 2020. ⋯ These results call for an improvement in thorough preoperative workup and long-term follow-up of patients (clinical and biological) to early manage hypertension and/or PA relapse.

Peri-operative complications are common and associated with high morbidity and mortality. Optimising the use of statins might be of important benefit in peri-operative care and reduce morbidity and mortality. ⋯ Adherence to guideline-recommended statin therapy was suboptimal, particularly in women. Statin use was associated with an increased risk of PMI due to T1MI and lT2MI but reduced risk of cardiovascular death and spontaneous MI within 120 days.
