The majority of patients diagnosed with early stage endometrial cancer have a favorable prognosis; however, approximately 10% to 15% experience a recurrence. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate whether postoperative carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA-125) levels could be used to predict recurrence and recurrence-free survival (RFS) in patients with surgical stage I endometrial cancer. ⋯ In patients with stage I endometrial cancer, a postoperative CA-125 level ≥13.75 U/mL was found to be significantly correlated with a higher recurrence rate, as well as a shorter RFS. Therefore, obtaining a follow-up CA-125 level within 6 to 12 months after staging surgery may be a promising noninvasive biomarker for predicting recurrence.

Capnography is an essential tool used in the monitoring of patients during anesthesia and in critical care which, while required in most high-income countries, is unavailable in many low- and middle-income countries. Launched in 2020, the Smile Train-Lifebox Capnography Project aimed to find a "capnography solution" for resource-poor settings. The project was specifically interested in a capnography device that would meet the needs of the Smile Train partner hospitals to help monitor children requiring airway or cleft surgery. ⋯ These materials were piloted in Ethiopia, subsequently modified, and endorsed by the education team. The device is now ready for distribution, with the accompanying education package, to the Smile Train network and beyond. In addition, a study is being planned to measure the impact of capnography introduction into operating rooms in resource-constrained settings.

Surgical outcomes and stoma-related complications in inflammatory bowel disease in Saudi Arabia: a retrospective study.

Even though medical treatment is first-line therapy, most patients require surgery during the course of the disease. Stoma creation complications in IBD are underreported in the literature of the Middle East and especially in Saudi Arabia. ⋯ Retrospective and conducted in one academic institution with a small sample size.

General large language models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT (GPT-3.5), have demonstrated the capability to pass multiple-choice medical board examinations. However, comparative accuracy of different LLMs and LLM performance on assessments of predominantly higher-order management questions is poorly understood. We aimed to assess the performance of 3 LLMs (GPT-3.5, GPT-4, and Google Bard) on a question bank designed specifically for neurosurgery oral boards examination preparation. ⋯ On a question bank of predominantly higher-order management case scenarios for neurosurgery oral boards preparation, GPT-4 achieved a score of 82.6%, outperforming ChatGPT and Google Bard.
