Retrospective review of cohort studies. ⋯ Lower baseline ODI and greater improvements in postoperative ODI are associated with an increased likelihood of patient satisfaction. A relative improvement of ≥66% or achieving a postoperative ODI score of ≤24 were the most indicative thresholds for predicting patient satisfaction, proving more sensitivity and specificity than an absolute change of ≥38 points.

As perioperative care shifts to a more patient-centered model, understanding needs and experiences of patients is vital. Gaining such insight can enhance the alignment of care with patient priorities, encouraging adherence to recovery-oriented interventions. We aimed to explore patient-defined recovery and the elements that modify the recovery process for patients with colorectal disease under enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) care. ⋯ Our patient-oriented recovery model may contribute a new dimension to the ERAS framework by capturing patients' recovery experiences. Further research is encouraged to explore its value in enhancing patient-centered care within ERAS.

To update and add to the first report commissioned by the Blue Ribbon Committee (BRC) about 20 years prior. ⋯ The last 2 decades have shown significant changes and shifts in medical education and surgical practice. The findings of BRC-II in this manuscript help to structure the current and future necessary improvements, focusing on different aspects of medical student education.

Retrospective study. ⋯ Patients at a higher risk of presenting to the ED postoperatively should be identified and may benefit from additional counseling and access to the care team virtually to limit unnecessary healthcare utilization. Focusing on patients who reach out via EPP messaging postoperatively may be a good target patient group to address first. Future research is needed to investigate the possible health literacy and other socioeconomic barriers affecting these patients so that appropriate, more cost-effective resources can be utilized to avoid clinically unnecessary and costly ED visits.
