Heterogeneous associations exist between alcohol consumption and the initial presentation of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Studies regarding the association between abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) and alcohol consumption are still limited and controversial. We hypothesize that patients with alcohol-related diseases are susceptible to AAA formation due to the presence of overlapping epidemiological factors and molecular mechanisms. ⋯ In addition, male gender, older age, and chronic kidney disease were also associated with an increased risk of developing AAA. An interaction model showed that males with alcohol-related diseases had a 10.4-fold higher risk of AAA than did females without alcohol-related diseases. We observed an association between alcohol-related diseases and AAA even after adjusting for several comorbidities and medications in a nationwide population database.

This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the impact of epilepsy, myasthenia gravis (MG), and multiple sclerosis (MS) on pregnancy and family planning decision-making in a cohort of Saudi women. Women with epilepsy, MG, and MS were recruited consecutively at the time of their follow-up visits at a neurology clinic. Data were collected using 3 standardized questionnaires, and presented using descriptive statistics. ⋯ Over 50% of women reported that they were not counseled on issues related to pregnancy and childbirth. In conclusion, we identified a major influence of epilepsy, MG, and MS on pregnancy and family planning. Comprehensive counseling programs are needed to help women with these neurological diseases make informed family-planning decisions.

Efficacy of DA-5204 (Stillen 2X) for patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study.
Proton pump inhibitor (PPI) alone is not satisfactory for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Therefore, we investigated the efficacy of DA-5204 (Stillen 2X, 90 mg of Artemisia asiatica 95% ethanol extract per tablet) and PPI combination therapy on GERD in comparison to PPI alone. ⋯ Combined therapy with PPI and DA-5204 has no additional effect on the endoscopic healing rate compared to PPI alone. However, it may be beneficial in resolving minimal change.

A delayed diagnosis of late-onset pulmonary hemorrhage in a toddler with Henoch-Schönlein purpura after regression of skin rash: A case report and literature review.
Pulmonary hemorrhage is a rare but fatal complication of Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP), and more easily ignored in children than in adults due to the absence of clinically evident hemoptysis. Moreover, despite being sporadically reported, given that pulmonary hemorrhage may develop after regression and even disappearance of skin rash, the asynchronous progression of skin and lung lesions poses escalating challenges in the timely diagnosis. We herein presented a delayed diagnosis of late-onset pulmonary hemorrhage in a child with HSP after regression of purpuric rash. ⋯ Pulmonary hemorrhage could occur in children with HSP at late onset of disease after regression of skin rash. New-onset respiratory symptoms in patients with a history of HSP should heighten suspicion for pulmonary hemorrhage, particularly if presenting with lack of fever, sudden drop of hemoglobin, new pulmonary infiltrates and unresponsiveness to antibiotics therapy. Bronchoscopy should be performed early to confirm the diagnosis, specifically for children.

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is an inflammatory disease of nasal mucosa caused by IgE mediated inflammatory mediators and various immune active cells and cytokines after exposure of specific individuals to allergens. In recent years, its prevalence rate has increased gradually. Therefore, we must pay attention to carry out early intervention. However, there are still some side effects in the current drug therapy of AR, and the recurrence of AR cannot be well controlled. Some Chinese herbs have anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, and have a better effect on the nasal symptoms of perennial and persistent rhinitis. The curative effect of allergic decoction on AR has been confirmed clinically. However, due to the lack of reliable evaluation means for its safety and effectiveness, it is necessary to carry out a systematic evaluation of allergic decoction in the treatment of AR, so as to lay a foundation for further research in the future. ⋯ September 12, 2020.osf.io/24w8n.(https://osf.io/24w8n).
