Long-term Mortality and SGLT2 Inhibitors in Type 2 Diabetes with and without renal impairment: An Observational Cohort Study.
Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have emerged as a vital part of management of type 2 diabetes, as they have been shown to have both cardiovascular and renal benefits along with an improved survival rate in several randomized clinical trials. We designed a retrospective cohort study to investigate the impact of SGLT2 inhibitors on mortality among type 2 diabetes patients. ⋯ This observational study demonstrated substantial long-term reduction in mortality risk among patients with type 2 diabetes treated with SGLT2 inhibitors. This is irrespective of the stage of their renal diseases or GLP1 agonist.

This study aimed to assess the predictive value of macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) in the first trimester for hypertensive disorders complicating pregnancy (HDCP) and its association with disease severity and adverse pregnancy outcomes. HDCP pose significant risks to both maternal health and fetal health. M-CSF is implicated in the pathogenesis of HDCP by promoting inflammation and endothelial damage. ⋯ Early detection and monitoring of M-CSF levels could aid in identifying high-risk pregnancies and implementing appropriate interventions to improve maternal and fetal outcomes.

Both infliximab (IFX) and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) have shown the efficacy for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, there has no head-to-head study on the cost-value of the such treatments on IBD. This study aimed to compare the medical costs using IFX and the new method of FMT (washed microbiota transplantation [WMT]) in the long-term management for IBD under the current health economic condition in China. ⋯ This study demonstrated that WMT could dramatically reduce the cost and duration of hospitalizations in the long-term sustainment in the current Chinese IBD cohort. Compared with IFX, WMT could be a good way for the patients with IBD achieving long-term sustainment and saving medical costs.

In studies conducted on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, many factors such as age, stage, weight loss, lymph node, and pleural involvement have been shown to affect survival. On the other hand, systemic inflammation plays a critical role in proliferation, migration, invasion, and metastasis. Inflammation and nutrition-based prognostic scores are reported to be associated with survival in patients with NSCLC. The aim of our study is to show the effects of these scores on survival and disease progression in NSCLC patients. ⋯ NLR, PLR, PNI, and mGPS are easily accessible noninvasive parameters and provide predictive information about survival and disease course. We showed the effect of these parameters on the prognosis.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the arterial wall, in which Human Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells (HVSMCs) are involved. Nevertheless, the functions and mechanisms of circRNAs in oxidized Low-Density Lipoprotein (ox-LDL)-induced vascular smooth muscle cells remain unclear. ⋯ Taken together, the data from this study suggest that circ-ABCA1 mediates cellular inflammation and phenotype switching through the miR-885-5p/ROCK2 axis in ox-LDL-induced VSMCs, and the circ-ABCA1/miR-885-5p/ROCK2 axis is a new potential biomarker for the treatment of AS.
