Does Mild Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pneumonia in Healthy Adults Cause Permanent Small Airway Injury?
Impulse oscillometry (IOS) is a type of oscillation technique that measures the input impedance (Z) of the respiratory system and can be used to detect pathological changes in the small airways at an early stage. Although coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) affects the vascular and parenchymal structures in the lung, chronic postinfection coughs also may be attributed to small airway pathologies. Our research aimed to use IOS for the assessment of the presence of small airway resistance (R) in patients who have had COVID-19. ⋯ The fact that there was no difference between respiratory system impedance, airway resistance, and spirometry values between groups with and without past COVID-19 infections supported the hypothesis that small airways were not affected 3 months after COVID-19.

Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a globally underdiagnosed inherited metabolic disorder. Owing to limited published data from Arab world, this study was conducted with the aim of identifying the genetic and molecular basis of FH in highly consanguineous Saudi population. ⋯ This study highlights the effectiveness of the WES, sanger sequencing, and computational analysis in expanding FH variant spectrum in culturally distinct populations like Saudi Arabia. Genetic testing of FH patients is very essential in better clinical diagnosis, screening, treatment, and management and prevention of cardiovascular disease burden in the society.

At present, nucleic acid testing is the gold standard for diagnosing influenza A, however, this method is expensive, time-consuming, and unsuitable for promotion and use in grassroots hospitals. This study aimed to establish a diagnostic model that could accurately, quickly, and simply distinguish between influenza A and influenza like diseases. ⋯ A computer algorithm diagnosis model of influenza A in children based on blood routine test data was established, which could identify children with influenza A more accurately in the early stage, and was easy to popularize.

This study aimed to investigate the reasons for patient delay in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and provide a scientific basis for implementing effective interventions. With the adoption of the phenomenological method in qualitative research, semi-structured, face-to-face interviews were conducted with 14 cases, and the Colaizzi seven-step analysis method was used to analyze the interview data and refine the themes. ⋯ The current status of patient delay in chronic kidney disease is serious, and there are various reasons for it. Health management departments and healthcare providers at all levels should pay attention to this situation and provide targeted supportive interventions and health education to help patients establish the correct awareness of medical consultation and effectively improve their quality of survival.
