Acute pancreatitis (AP) is one of the most common gastrointestinal diseases, and it is divided into 3 types according to its severity:mild acute pancreatitis, moderately severe acute pancreatitis, and severe acute pancreatitis. The mortality in severe acute pancreatitis is approximately 15% to 30% due to multiorgan dysfunction and the lack of specific treatment. ⋯ And many studies have shown that IL-22 had a protective effect against AP. This article reviews the characteristics and mechanism of IL-22 and its role in AP to provide insight into the treatment of AP.

Especially in recent years, temporal muscle thickness has been used as an important parameter for sarcopenia in neurological disorders. In addition, triglyceride glucose index was evaluated separately in studies conducted in terms of coronary diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure, body mass index and acute stroke. In this clinical study, unlike the others, both temporal muscle thickness and triglyceride glucose index were evaluated together in acute stroke patients in terms of sarcopenia. ⋯ Sensitivity value was 91.18%, specificity value was 13%, PPV value was 26.96% and NPV value was 81%. Temporal muscle thickness and triglyceride glucose index parameters were found to be statistically important parameters of sarcopenia. It was concluded that the evaluation of these 2 parameters in terms of both mortality and sarcopenia in acute stroke patients is important in the evaluation of neurological and cardiac disorders.

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis is a benign, inflammatory disease of breasts characterized by non-caseating granulomas. Our study aims to identify distinguishing clinical and histopathological features of relapsing disease compared to those in complete remission. We queried databases at our institution (1990-2021) to include females ≥18 years with biopsy-proven diagnosis of idiopathic granulomatous mastitis, excluding patients with breast cancer, lymphoproliferative disorders, solid organ malignancy, foreign body reaction in breast, plasma cell mastitis, and ductal ectasia. ⋯ Three (33%) patients with relapse and 14 (77%) with remission, had abscess formation confirmed on histopathology (P = .04). Patients with remission had a higher number of abscesses on histopathology and history of oral contraceptive use was associated with more relapse. By identifying key clinical and histopathological findings in this population may guide prognosis and treatment of these patients.

This study aims to investigate the causal effect of Alzheimer disease on thyroiditis using medical English and the Nature journal style. Genome-wide association data for Alzheimer disease and thyroiditis were obtained from the Mendelian Randomization (MR) platform. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) significantly associated with Alzheimer disease were identified and used as instrumental variables (IVs) to examine the causal relationship between Alzheimer disease and thyroiditis, employing a 2-sample MR study design. ⋯ Upon evaluation using different methods, a consistent association between Alzheimer disease and thyroiditis was observed inverse variance-weighted method [IVW]: odds ratio [OR] 1.32, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.01-1.72; weighted median estimator: OR 1.32, 95% CI 1.01-1.72; Mendelian randomization Egger regression: OR 1.29, 95% CI 0.92-1.81), indicating a positive correlation between Alzheimer disease and increased risk of thyroiditis. There was no evidence suggesting that the observed causal relationship between Alzheimer disease and thyroiditis risk could be influenced by pleiotropy (Mendelian randomization Egger intercept 0.0058, P = .88. Our MR analysis reveals causal association of Alzheimer disease and thyroiditis, despite observational studies reporting an association between Alzheimer disease and thyroiditis.

Low back pain (LBP) is highly prevalent after lower limb amputation (LLA). Reports describing longitudinal changes in spine health before and after amputation are rare. This study describes lumbar spine pathology, muscle morphology, and the continuum of care for LBP before and after LLA. ⋯ Lumbar spine health may degrade after amputation. Here, lumbar muscle size did not change after LLA, yet the fat content increased in combination with increases in facet and intervertebral disc degeneration.
