Review Case Reports
An obvious antinomy, superior sagittal sinus thrombosis in a patient with immune thrombocytopenia: Case report and a review of literatures.
Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune disease with an increased risk of bleeding. However, in recent years, it has been reported that patients with this hemorrhagic disease have the risk of thrombosis and embolism. ⋯ There are many factors for ITP patients to have thrombosis involving ITP itself, its treatment and the patients' constitution, medical history, and former medication. ITP is not only a hemorrhagic disease but also a thrombotic disease. Clinicians should be alert to the risk of thrombotic diseases in ITP treatment. Therefore thrombus monitoring and screening should be carried out, and early prevention or appropriate anticoagulant treatment should be selected, especially for patients with high risk.

Recurrent intussusception is one of the common acute abdominal diseases in infants, which seriously affects the physical and mental health of infants, but its risk factors have not been fully clarified. The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between Th2/Th1 cytokine imbalance and recurrent intussusception, so as to provide a theoretical basis for making a more comprehensive treatment strategy for patients with recurrent intussusception. A retrospective study was conducted between July 2012 and September 2022, enrolling patients with intussusception in Children's Hospital of Hebei Province. ⋯ The results showed that the incidence of recurrent intussusception was 18.41% and the Th2/Th1 cytokine imbalance was closely related to the incidence of recurrent intussusception. Th2/Th1 cytokine imbalance is a potential risk factor of recurrent intussusception and more likely to occur in children between the ages of 2 and 3. Future studies are needed to preemptively target the Th2/Th1 cytokine imbalance to formulate a reasonable treatment plan for children with intussusception to avoid recurrence.

Elevated serum uric acid (SUA) levels are associated with coronary artery disease (CAD). However, whether this association is independent of traditional cardiovascular risk factors remains controversial. Our study aimed to determine the concentration of SUA in the presence and severity of CAD in multi-ethnic patients in Xinjiang, China. ⋯ In the PCI group, there was no significant correlation between UA levels. SUA levels are not an independent risk factor for CAD. It can be concluded that in Xinjiang, China, SUA is related to multiple risk factors for CAD, but not related to the severity of CAD.

The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the association between preoperative serological and clinical indicators and postoperative recovery in patients who had undergone resection of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). We collected data form the medical records of patients who underwent operations for the treatment of ICC at Qingdao University Affiliated Hospital from 2015 to 2021. We analyzed the data to explore the independent predictors of disease prognosis after surgery for ICC. ⋯ However, only carbohydrate antigen 24-2 and glutamyl transpeptidase were correlated with overall survival in patients with ICC. However, only a positive history of biliary surgery was significantly associated with tumor-free survival in patients with ICC. Preoperative prothrombin time, vascular invasion, N-stage, incisal edge, and carcinoembryonic antigen levels may be simple predictors of disease progression in ICC after hepatectomy.

Dengue fever (DF) is a significant public health concern in Asia. However, detecting the disease using traditional dichotomous criteria (i.e., absent vs present) can be extremely difficult. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and artificial neural networks (ANNs), due to their use of a large number of parameters for modeling, have shown the potential to improve prediction accuracy (ACC). To date, there has been no research conducted to understand item features and responses using online Rasch analysis. To verify the hypothesis that a combination of CNN, ANN, K-nearest-neighbor algorithm (KNN), and logistic regression (LR) can improve the ACC of DF prediction for children, further research is required. ⋯ The development of an LR-based APP for the detection of DF in children has been completed. To help patients, family members, and clinicians differentiate DF from other febrile illnesses at an early stage, an 11-item model is proposed for developing the APP.
