How is gut microbiome of patients with familial adenomatous polyposis different from healthy people?
The gut microbiome has been increasingly suggested as an underlying cause of various human diseases. In this study, we hypothesized that the gut microbiomes of patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) are different from those of healthy people and attempted to identify the associations between gut microbiome characteristics and FAP. We collected fecal samples from patients with FAP and healthy volunteers and evaluated the diversity, composition, and distribution of the gut microbiome between the 2 groups via 16S rRNA-based taxonomic profiling of the fecal samples. ⋯ We also found 7 specific abundant strains in fecal samples of patients with FAP. Patients with FAP had different Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratios and Proteobacteria abundance compared to healthy people and showed the presence of specific bacteria. These findings suggest a promising role of the gut microbiome in patients with FAP, although further studies are needed.

The effect of Taohong Siwu decoction combined with antihypertensive medicine in the treatment of hypertension: Meta-analysis.
Taohong Siwu Decoction (THSWD) is a classic prescription of traditional Chinese medicine. Recent research has shown that the practical components of THSWD have specific curative effects on various cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, suggesting THSWD could effectively lower blood pressure (BP) with fewer side effects. However, little information is available regarding the effectiveness of THSWD combined with antihypertensive medicine on hypertension. ⋯ THSWD combined with antihypertensive drugs in treating hypertension was curative in lowering BP, improving blood lipid levels and reducing the incidence of adverse reactions compared to antihypertensive medications treatment. However, more high-quality studies are needed due to the biased results and the small number of studies for further verification of the effectiveness of THSWD, and providing a new treatment for clinical reference.

Thunder-fire moxibustion for lumbar disc herniation: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is a common degenerative disease that severely impacts the quality of life of patients. Thunder-fire moxibustion is an ancient Chinese medicine-based external therapeutic procedure that has been employed for pain relief until this day. The focus of our study was to demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of thunder-fire moxibustion in the treatment of LDH. ⋯ Thunder-Fire moxibustion is effective in relieving discomfort in patients with LDH. It has significant clinical efficacy, but there is still a need for prospective, multicentre, large-sample randomized controlled trials to enhance the clinical evidence due to the quality of included studies and methodological limitations.

Overweight and obesity in early life increase the risk of chronic disease and ill health later on. We studied secular trends in the prevalence of overweight and obesity among young people in Germany, with consideration of socioeconomic status (SES). ⋯ Social differences in the prevalence of overweight among children and adolescents increased from the early 2000s to the mid-2010s. Structural measures are needed to help prevent overweight among young people in socially disadvantaged circumstances.

Vascular senescence is the basic factor of many cardiovascular diseases. Vascular endothelium, as a protective barrier between blood and vascular wall, plays an important role in maintaining the integrity and homeostasis of vascular system. Endothelial cell senescence is an important pathological change of vascular senescence. ⋯ Many research results showed that the mechanism is various, but the systematic elucidation still lacks. Western medicine has little choice in the prevention and treatment of endothelial cell senescence, and the control effect is also limited, while Chinese medicine makes up for the deficiency in this regard. The main mechanisms of vascular endothelial cell aging and the related research progress of traditional Chinese medicine in the prevention and treatment of vascular endothelial aging in recent years were summarized in this paper to provide reference for the research of traditional Chinese medicine in anti-vascular aging and the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
