Association between high uric acid and the risk of Parkinson's disease: A meta-analysis.
Uric acid, as an important antioxidant substance in human body, has attracted much attention in relation to the risk of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the causal relationship between them is still controversial. We perform a meta-analysis to summarize the available evidence from cohort studies on the association between high uric acid and the risk of PD. ⋯ Our study confirms a significant association between high uric acid and the risk of PD, especially in men under 60 years old, and a dose-response trend of uric acid to reduce PD risk was also observed. Furthermore, LRRK2 mutation carriers are more likely to benefit from high uric acid than non-manifesting LRRK2 mutation carriers.

Concomitant pyogenic spondylodiscitis and empyema following tongue cancer resection and wisdom tooth extraction: A case report and literature review.
Pyogenic spondylodiscitis is an infectious spinal disease that causes significant motor dysfunctions. Its diagnosis can be challenging owing to its rapid onset and nonspecific symptoms. ⋯ This is the first case report of S aureus causing pyogenic spondylodiscitis and empyema due to blood stream infection from a post-oral surgical wound. Pyogenic spondylodiscitis arising from a secondary hematogenous infection is difficult to diagnose and can lead to severe functional impairment. Prompt and appropriate diagnosis and treatment based on detailed patient interviews, additional blood tests, and computed tomography are essential.

Rehabilitation report of 2 cases of spinal cord ischemic injury after intra-aortic repair.
Spinal cord ischemia injury is a serious complication after intra-aortic surgery, with a low incidence but high disability rate. However, patients often do not receive comprehensive treatment in the early stages of the disease. Therefore, active neurological intervention is needed to protect and prevent spinal cord ischemia during and after surgery. In this paper, rehabilitation program and imaging data of 2 cases with spinal cord ischemic injury are presented and discussed regarding causes, prevention and acute treatment with this disease, which could be referred by clinicians. ⋯ Perioperative spinal cord protection is directly related to postoperative quality of life. Once the symptoms of spinal cord ischemic injury occur, cerebrospinal fluid drainage should be performed as soon as possible to increase mean arterial pressure. At the same time, methylprednisolone, ganglioside, anticoagulation, vasodilator drugs, and symptomatic supportive treatments are required. Intercostal artery and subclavian artery are reconstructed if necessary. Symptom stability flags referral to commence rehabilitation. Repetitive functional training is necessary to help patients return to the family and society as soon as possible.

Obstetric outcomes of women vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine (≥1 dose): A single-center retrospective cohort study of pregnant Chinese women.
In the context of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the quickly developed COVID-19 vaccine may cause various adverse reactions, especially in special groups, such as pregnant women. However, many pregnant women have concerns regarding vaccination in terms of safety for themselves and their neonates. Therefore, we studied the obstetric outcomes of pregnant women in Zunyi, China. ⋯ Based on the adverse reaction and obstetric outcome data of pregnant women who received the COVID-19 vaccine in China, the vaccine does not raise any safety concerns. This result is the same as that of other countries we summarized. The COVID-19 vaccine has no effect on pregnancy outcomes.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) inevitably progresses to end-stage renal disease if intervention does not occur timely. However, there are limitations in predicting the progression of CKD by solely relying on changes in renal function. A biomarker with high sensitivity and specificity that can predict CKD progression early is required. ⋯ The receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of CCR7, CCL19, and CCL21 found that CCR7 and CCL19 present good disease prediction ability. CCR7 may be a stable biomarker for predicting CKD progression, and the CCR7-CCL19/CCL21 axis may be a therapeutic target for end-stage renal disease. However, further experiments are needed to explore the relationship between these genes and CKD.
