Randomized Controlled Trial
Isokinetic back training is more effective than core stabilization training on pain intensity and sports performances in football players with chronic low back pain: A randomized controlled trial.
Isokinetic training (IKT) and core stabilization training (CST) are commonly used for balance training in musculoskeletal conditions. The knowledge about the effective implementation of these training protocols on sports performances in university football players with chronic low back pain (LBP) is lacking. ⋯ This study suggests that training through IKT improves pain intensity and sports performances than CST in university football players with chronic LBP.

Loss of nucleus accumbens low-frequency fluctuations is a signature of chronic pain.
Chronic pain is a highly prevalent disease with poorly understood pathophysiology. In particular, the brain mechanisms mediating the transition from acute to chronic pain remain largely unknown. Here, we identify a subcortical signature of back pain. ⋯ Analysis of the power spectral density of nucleus accumbens resting-state activity in the subacute and chronic back pain patients revealed loss of power in the slow-5 frequency band (0.01 to 0.027 Hz) which developed only in the chronic phase of pain. This loss of power was reproducible across two cohorts of chronic low-back pain patients obtained from different sites and accurately classified chronic low-back pain patients in two additional independent datasets. Our results provide evidence that lower nucleus accumbens volume confers risk for developing chronic pain and altered nucleus accumbens activity is a signature of the state of chronic pain.

Neoplasm of the spinal column in children is rare, but can involve either benign or malignant tumours. Early detection of malignant tumours is key to successful clinical outcome and long-term prognosis. ⋯ Therefore, it is important for GPs and trainees who encounter paediatric patients to be aware of the clinical entity to be able to thoroughly assess them in clinical practice. This article discusses the types of paediatric spinal neoplasms, anatomical-based classification, clinical red flags, imaging modalities and outlines brief management options.
