The aim of this study was to identify non-pharmacological pain relief therapies in children undergoing surgery. ⋯ In this study, we highlight the importance of non-pharmacological therapies in pediatric postoperative pain management. Cognitive-behavioral techniques, especially music therapy, video therapy, and therapeutic play, reduce pediatric postoperative pain. They are therefore effective therapies that nurses can use in this area. Further research into the effectiveness of storytelling is necessary, as the evidence is not entirely conclusive. More evidence is also needed on physical methods of pain relief, particularly massage.

Randomized Controlled TrialAnalgesic effects of pectoserratus plane block and intermediate cervical plexus block for transaxillary endoscopic thyroidectomy: a prospective randomized controlled trial.
Transaxillary endoscopic thyroidectomy (TAET) is favored for its favorable cosmetic outcomes and the preservation of anterior cervical function. Despite these benefits, postoperative analgesia has traditionally relied on pharmacological interventions, and regional anesthetic procedures may be an alternative method. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of an ultrasound-guided pectoserratus plane block (PSPB) combined with an intermediate cervical plexus block (ICPB) for TAET. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided PSPB with ICPB significantly alleviated postoperative pain and improved patient satisfaction with TAET.

The Impact of Ketorolac Utilization on Outcomes for Lumbar Spine Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.
Ketorolac is one of the most potent nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs commonly used in spine surgery. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of ketorolac utilization with or without other medications on a patient's postoperative course after lumbar surgery. ⋯ There is no significant difference in 24-hour and total postoperative morphine utilization, pain scores, or length of stay, with similar complication rates after lumbar surgery between patients receiving ketorolac and patients not receiving ketorolac via meta-analysis of RCTs.

Meta AnalysisThe effects of prophylactic use of esketamine on postoperative depression and quality of life: a meta-analysis.
The aim of this systemic review and meta-analysis was to assess the impact of prophylactic use of esketamine on postoperative depression and quality of life in patients. ⋯ Prophylactic use of esketamine during the preoperative and anesthesia period has shown significant benefits in improving postoperative quality of life. It can effectively alleviate postoperative depression, anxiety, and chronic pain, as well as enhance sleep quality.

A Randomized Controlled Trial Using Epidural Analgesia for Pain Relief After Lumbar Interlaminar Decompressive Spine Surgery: The RAPID trial.
Prospective, double-blind randomized controlled trial. ⋯ This randomized controlled trial shows that administrating a bolus of intraoperative epidural bupivacaine is a safe and effective method for reducing early postoperative pain following lumbar decompression surgery.
