Postoperative efficacy of thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) following thoracic surgery may vary in patients with different body mass index (BMI) values, regardless of the success of the method. This study aimed to investigate the effects of BMI on postoperative pain scores in patients who underwent thoracotomy with TEA. After obtaining the ethical committee approval (Date: May 11, 2021, Number: 2012-KEAK-15/2305) the data of 1326 patients, who underwent elective thoracic surgery in high volume tertiary thoracic surgery center between January 2017 and January 2021, were analyzed retrospectively. ⋯ This study revealed that higher BMI in patients may increase VAS scores, who administered TEA for pain management following thoracotomy. This correlation was supported by the increased need for additional analgesics in patients with high BMI. Therefore, patients with high BMI values would require close monitoring and follow-up.

Outcomes of 2-octyl cyanoacrylate skin adhesives following musculoskeletal oncology surgery: A STROBE-compliant observational study.
2-octyl cyanoacrylate (2OCA) is a high-viscosity medical-grade tissue adhesive that is routinely used. However, no studies have evaluated its use in musculoskeletal surgery. We enrolled 99 patients who underwent musculoskeletal surgery. 2OCA was chosen for wound closure and was performed by a specific surgeon for all patients. ⋯ The incidence of postoperative adverse events was low. However, some patients develop hematomas. Postoperative pain was low, and patient satisfaction was high. 2OCA can be a practical alternative to traditional suture closure for skin incisions after musculoskeletal surgery.

Pain control after hepatectomy is usually achieved by opioids. There are significant individual differences in the amount of opioids used after hepatectomy, and the metabolism of opioids is liver-dependent. The purpose of our study was to explore the possible risk factors for opioid consumption during the first 48 h after surgery. ⋯ Age younger than 60 years, major hepatic resection, an open approach and a longer operation are factors more likely to cause patients to require higher doses of sufentanil after hepatectomy, and the early identification of such patients can increase the efficacy of perioperative pain management.

Randomized Controlled TrialDexmedetomidine combined with suprascapular nerve block and axillary nerve block has a synergistic effect on relieving postoperative pain after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
Suprascapular nerve block (SSNB) is the most commonly used block for the relief of postoperative pain from arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and can be used in combination with axillary nerve block (ANB). Dexmedetomidine (DEX) is a type of alpha agonist that can elongate the duration of regional block. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of the use of dexmedetomidine combined with SSNB and ANB with those of the use of SSNB and ANB alone on postoperative pain, satisfaction, and pain-related cytokines within the first 48 h after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. ⋯ Level I.

Both transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block and local anesthetic wound infiltration have been used to relieve pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. We undertook this systematic review and meta-analysis with trial sequential analysis to determine the best analgesic technique. ⋯ There is moderate-to-high level evidence that the TAP block provides superior analgesia when compared with wound infiltration in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
