The purpose of the study was to investigate factors associated with early discontinuation of low-dose ketamine infusions due to adverse drug events (ADEs). ⋯ Patients who required discontinuation of their low-dose ketamine infusion due to ADEs were more likely to be opioid naïve, received less pre-operative benzodiazepines, and had greater postoperative opioid PCA requirements. Control patients, on the other hand, had higher rates of pre-operative opioid use and experienced fewer ADEs despite greater total ketamine doses.

Understanding postsurgical prescribing patterns and their impact on persistent opioid use is important for establishing reasonable opioid prescribing protocols. We aimed to determine national variation in postoperative opioid prescription practices following elective lumbar spine surgery and their impact on short-term refill prescriptions. ⋯ In analysis of filled opioid prescriptions, we observed a significant proportion of prescriptions >200 MMEs and wide regional variation in postdischarge opioid prescribing patterns following elective lumbar spine surgery.

Ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block for postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing open radical prostatectomy: A randomized, placebo-controlled trial.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane (ESP) block on postoperative pain in radical prostatectomy, which leads to both visceral and somatic pain. ⋯ In open radical prostatectomies, except for the first hour, ESP block is ineffective for pain scores and on morphine consumption compared to the placebo injection group in the postoperative period.

Postoperative Thoracic Pain Treatment: Serratus Anterior or Erector Spinae Plane Block?
Thoracic surgery is one of the most painful surgeries. Effective analgesia is important in postoperative pain management. In this study, we aimed to compare the two new fascial block techniques. ⋯ ESPB was more effective compared with SAPB in postoperative thoracic pain management.

Anterior Quadratus Lumborum Block Does Not Provide Superior Pain Control after Hip Arthroscopy: A Double-Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial.
Hip arthroscopy is associated with moderate to severe postoperative pain. This prospective, randomized, double-blinded study investigates the clinically analgesic effect of anterior quadratus lumborum block with multimodal analgesia compared to multimodal analgesia alone. The authors hypothesized that an anterior quadratus lumborum block with multimodal analgesia would be superior for pain control. ⋯ Anterior quadratus lumborum block may not add to the benefits provided by multimodal analgesia alone after hip arthroscopy. Anterior quadratus lumborum block did not cause a motor deficit. The lack of treatment effect in this study demonstrates a surgical procedure without benefit from this novel block.
