To evaluate the effects of the Pecs II block on postoperative pain in patients undergoing breast reduction surgery. ⋯ Pecs II block with general anesthesia may significantly contribute to reducing intraoperative and postoperative analgesia requirements and provide long-lasting and more effective postoperative pain in breast reduction surgery.

Surgical management for lumbar brucella spondylitis: Posterior versus anterior approaches.
There has been no ideal surgical approach for lumbar brucella spondylitis (LBS). This study aims to compare clinical efficacy and safety of posterior versus anterior approaches for the treatment of LBS. From April 2005 to January 2015, a total of 27 adult patients with lumbar brucella spondylitis were recruited in this study. ⋯ There were no significant differences between the two groups in hospitalizations, bony fusion time, and visual analog scale score in the last follow-up (P = .055, P = .364, P = .125, respectively). Our results suggested that both anterior and posterior approaches can effectively cure lumbar brucella spondylitis. Nevertheless, posterior approach gives better kyphotic deformity correction, less surgical invasiveness, and less complications.

Unrelieved postoperative pain afflicts millions each year in low and middle income countries (LMIC). Despite substantial advances in the study of pain, this area remains neglected. Current systematic review was designed to ascertain the types of clinical trials conducted in LMIC on postoperative pain management modalities over the last decade. ⋯ We found that over the past 10 years, clinical trials for postoperative pain modalities have evolved in LMIC according to the current postoperative pain management guidelines i.e. multi-modal approach with some form of regional analgesia. The current review shows that clinical trials were conducted using multimodal analgesia including but not limited to some form of regional analgesia for postoperative pain in LMIC however this research snapshot (of only three countries) may not exactly reflect the clinical practices in all 47 countries. Development and validation of a postoperative delirium prediction model for pediatric patients: A prospective, observational, single-center study.
Postoperative delirium is a serious complication that relates to poor outcomes. A risk prediction model could help the staff screen for children at high risk for postoperative delirium. Our study aimed to establish a postoperative delirium prediction model for pediatric patients and to verify the sensitivity and specificity of this model. ⋯ The model verification results showed the sensitivity of 0.667, the specificity of 0.955. Children undergoing surgery are at risk for developing delirium during the postoperative period, young age, developmental delay, otorhinolaryngology surgery, pain, and exposure to dexmedetomidine were associated with increased odds of delirium. Our study established a postoperative delirium prediction model for pediatric patients, which may be a base for development of strategies to prevent and treat postoperative delirium in children.
