Observational StudySublingual sufentanil tablet system for the management of acute postoperative pain in a hospital setting: an observational study.
The use of a strong opioid with intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IV-PCA) is recommended for postoperative pain, but its use is restricted due to technical problems. Other delivery systems, like sublingual PCA, with the sufentanil tablet system (SSTS) device, could overcome the safety concerns related to IV-PCA. ⋯ Under a real-life clinical practice setting, SSTS provides effective pain management and is easy to use for patients and nurses.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block on postoperative analgesia and plasma cytokine levels after uniportal VATS: a prospective randomized controlled trial.
Although uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has been widely used, the associated postoperative pain is still severe. Currently, a variety of regional anesthesia methods have been used to relieve postoperative pain. In our study, we wanted to evaluate the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block (ESPB) as a postoperative analgesia after uniportal VATS. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided ESPB decreased the consumption of sufentanil both postoperatively and intraoperatively for patients undergoing uniportal VATS and appeared to be an effective treatment option.

Effect of preoperative oral administration of steroids in comparison to an anti-inflammatory drug on postoperative pain following single-visit root canal treatment - a double-blind, randomized clinical trial.
This randomized, double-blinded, clinical trial evaluated the effect of oral premedication of piroxicam, prednisolone, dexamethasone or placebo on postoperative pain after single-visit root canal treatment in teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and symptomatic apical periodontitis. ⋯ Preoperative oral administration of a single dose of 4 mg dexamethasone, 20 mg piroxicam or 20 mg prednisolone reduced the incidence and severity of postoperative pain following single-visit root canal treatment compared to a placebo in patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and symptomatic apical periodontitis up to 24 h. The odds of postoperative pain at 24 h for patients premedicated with 4 mg dexamethasone or 20 mg piroxicam or 20 mg prednisolone were 5.3 times, 3.4 times and 2.5 times less compared to the placebo, respectively.

Predicting Acute Pain After Surgery: A Multivariate Analysis.
To identify perioperative practice patterns that predictably impact postoperative pain. ⋯ The presented analysis offers detailed insight into current practice patterns and reveals modifications that can be implemented in today's clinical practice. Our results also suggest that parameters other than those currently studied are relevant for postoperative pain including biological and psychological variables.
