Randomized Controlled Trial
Is a videotape to change beliefs and behaviors superior to a standard videotape in acute low back pain? A randomized controlled trial.
Cognitive behavioral therapy has been used successfully in acute low back pain (LBP) treatment, but the use of a cognitive behavioral videotape as an adjunct to treatment has not been studied. ⋯ Compared with a standard instructional videotape, a behavioral videotape did not change beliefs, outcomes, or costs over 1 year. Cost-effective behavioral interventions with high patient retention rates are needed, especially for those at greatest risk of high utilization of resources.

Comparative StudySources of sacroiliac region pain: insights gained from a study comparing standard intra-articular injection with a technique combining intra- and peri-articular injection.
To present evidence supporting the existence of extra-articular sources for sacroiliac region pain and to present evidence that intra-articular anesthetic blockade may underestimate the true prevalence of sacroiliac region pain. ⋯ Significant extra-articular sources of sacroiliac region pain exist. Intra-articular diagnostic blocks underestimate the prevalence of sacroiliac region pain.

Chinese acupuncture for chronic low back pain: an international expert survey.
Chinese acupuncture is widely accepted in western countries, and a number of clinical trials are testing Chinese acupuncture, especially for chronic low back pain (cLBP). However, little is known about how practitioners perform acupuncture treatment in daily clinical work and whether treatment styles differ among practitioners and countries. ⋯ For the first time it has been shown that there is a broad consistency in fundamental aspects of Chinese acupuncture for cLBP across different kinds of practitioners and different countries. These data can be used as minimal standards for the design and funding of future clinical trials.

Clinical TrialThe role of an integrated back stability program in patients with chronic low back pain.
A controlled clinical trial. ⋯ IBS significantly reduced pain and disability in the subject group studied. Patients reported a positive experience of the programme.
