The choice of anesthesia type (general anesthesia [GA] vs nongeneral anesthesia [non-GA]) in middle meningeal artery embolization (MMAE) procedures for chronic subdural hematomas (cSDH) differs between institutions and left to care team discretion given lack of standard guidelines. We compare the outcomes of GA vs non-GA in MMAE. ⋯ We found no significant differences in radiological improvement/clinical outcomes between GA and non-GA for MMAE.

Intraoperative mechanical power and postoperative pulmonary complications in low-risk surgical patients: a prospective observational cohort study.
Inadequate intraoperative mechanical ventilation (MV) can lead to ventilator-induced lung injury and increased risk for postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs). Mechanical power (MP) was shown to be a valuable indicator for MV outcomes in critical care patients. The aim of this study is to assess the association between intraoperative MP in low-risk surgical patients undergoing general anesthesia and PPCs. ⋯ NCT03551899; 24/02/2017.

Assessment of Preoperative Anxiety and Influencing Factors in Patients Undergoing Elective Surgery: An Observational Cross-Sectional Study.
Background and Objectives: Preoperative anxiety is a common emotional response before elective surgery that influences postoperative outcomes and can increase analgesic requirements. However, clinicians frequently overlook these concerns. This study aimed to quantify preoperative anxiety and evaluate its association with patient-related factors. ⋯ The most commonly reported subjective concern related to anesthesia was the fear of not regaining consciousness, followed by concerns about postoperative pain, intraoperative emergence, and other issues. Conclusions: This study confirms that being female is a significant risk factor for preoperative anxiety. Therefore, it is necessary to provide enhanced preoperative anxiolytic therapies, including preoperative patient education and other interventions, to individuals undergoing surgical procedures.

Atelectasis typically denotes the partial or complete collapse of lung segments, lobes, or lobules in individuals, leading to a compromised respiratory function. The prevalence of perioperative atelectasis may be significantly underestimated, particularly among patients subjected to general anesthesia. ⋯ During non-intubated intravenous anesthesia, patients with compromised pulmonary conditions are more susceptible to refractory hypoxemia. Therefore, a personalized approach should be adopted regarding oxygen concentration and the dosage and type of medication. Additionally, preparations for appropriate airway management measures are essential to safeguard patient safety in the event of respiratory issues.
