Comparative StudyRegional analgesia modalities in abdominal and lower limb surgery - comparison of efficacy.
A significant component of all surgical procedures and postoperative treatment is pain management. Due to the physiological and psychological advantages of pain relief, it is one of the foremost indicators of quality of care. ⋯ Enhanced recovery protocols that emphasize sparing administration of opioids are growing in importance, andresulting in reduced length of hospital stay after abdominal and lower limb surgery. To further improve such protocols and optimize postoperative care for individual patient needs, it is imperative to fully assess the efficacy of available drugs and analgesia modalities.

Effect of comprehensive nursing intervention in preventing postoperative pain, complications, and psychological pressure in the otolaryngology department.
This study aims to analyze the influence of comprehensive nursing intervention on the postoperative pain, complications, and psychological pressure of otolaryngology patients. A total of 300 otolaryngology patients in our hospital from February 2016 to October 2017 were selected and randomly divided into 2 groups using the random number table: control group (n = 150), patients were given routine nursing; experimental group (n = 150), patients were given comprehensive nursing intervention. Postoperative pain, complications, and psychological pressure between the 2 groups were analyzed. ⋯ The acute psychological pressure score and the psychological pressure self-test score in the experimental group were both lower than that in the control group (P < .05). Comprehensive nursing intervention for otolaryngology patients was associated to relieving pain after the operation and psychological pressure of patients in the short and long term. Besides, comprehensive nursing intervention for otolaryngology patients was associated with a lower risk of complications.

Is virtual reality useful for pain management in patients who undergo medical procedures?
Pain management is a complex medical issue, and many efforts have been done to develop new non-pharmacological therapies. Virtual reality is a technology apparatus that make an interaction between human and virtual environment through an hardware (usually a headset) linked to a computer or a mobile, by using a software. ⋯ Thus, it is plausible that the software used should be personalized depending on patient's experiences and expectations. The use of virtual reality as a medical tool for pain relief or decrease analgesics use by promoting a cognitive distraction is a low cost and promising instrument for pain management in patients who undergo medical procedures.
