Observational StudyValidation of The Critical-care Pain Observation Tool (CPOT) for the detection of oral-pharyngeal pain in critically ill adults.
Mechanically ventilated patients experience pain at rest and during daily care procedures. Our objective was to test the reliability and validity of the Critical-Care Pain Observation Tool (CPOT) to detect oral-pharyngeal pain in intubated and tracheostomised adults during routine oral care procedures. ⋯ The CPOT is reliable and valid for the detection of oral-pharyngeal pain during oral care procedures indicated as painful by critically ill adults.

Reliability of the Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy System in Patients With Spinal Pain: A Systematic Review.
An updated summary of the evidence for the reliability of the Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) system in patients with spinal pain is needed. ⋯ The MDT system appears to have acceptable interrater reliability for classifying patients with back pain into main and subsyndromes when applied by therapists who have completed the credentialing examination, but unacceptable reliability in other therapists. We found conflicting evidence regarding the reliability of the MDT system in patients with neck pain or mixed pain locations. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2018;48(12):923-933. Epub 22 Jun 2018. doi:10.2519/jospt.2018.7876.

Blood pressure-related pain modulation in fibromyalgia: Differentiating between static versus dynamic pain indicators.
Resting blood pressure (BP) has been found to be inversely associated with evoked pain responsiveness in healthy populations. However, some reports suggest that BP-related pain modulation may be dysfunctional in chronic pain patients. This study examined whether BP-related pain modulation, indexed by both static and dynamic evoked pain responses, is altered in fibromyalgia (FM) patients compared to pain-free individuals. ⋯ Static evoked pain measures suggested BP-related pain inhibitory dysfunction in FM. In contrast, for pain sensitization as indexed by SREP, FM displayed the expected BP-related inhibitory effects. BP-related pain modulation is manifested in FM differentially for static versus dynamic pain indicators. Use of both types of evoked pain measures may be valuable in the study of mechanisms underlying altered pain modulatory systems in FM.

To transculturally adapt the Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale for Hindi-speaking population and examine its psychometric properties in patients with low back pain. ⋯ The Hindi version of Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale has good test-retest reliability, discriminative and convergent validity and is appropriate for clinical and research use in Hindi-speaking low back pain patients. Implications for rehabilitation Linguistically and culturally adapted questionnaires help researchers make adequate inferences about instruments measuring health and quality of life. The translated version would serve as a valid research tool allowing comparability of data across cultures thus, providing opportunities for large multicenter, multicountry trials. A Hindi Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale version will help to improve the quality and efficacy of assessment of low back pain by developing in patients, a better understanding of the items which can be easily correlated with the activities of daily living.

[Comparison of two kinds of pain assessment tools for ICU patients in oral and maxillofacial surgery].
To explore the validity of two kinds of pain assessment tools for ICU patients after oral and maxillofacial surgery. ⋯ Both CPOT and BPS have good reliability and validity, which may be used to assess the pain of ICU patients in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
