Validation of the Social support and Pain Questionnaire (SPQ) in patients with painful temporomandibular disorders.
The present study aimed to validate of Social support and Pain Questionnaire (SPQ) for use in Chinese patients with painful temporomandibular disorders (TMD). ⋯ These findings support that the Chinese version of SPQ can be used as a reliable and valid tool for Chinese patients with painful TMD.

Fibromyalgia with chronic rheumatic diseases in South Korea: a comparison of clinical and American College of Rheumatology criteria.
To describe the prevalence and characteristics of fibromyalgia (FM) in patients with underlying rheumatic disease, and to compare it by three different measures. ⋯ We found a 10.4~34.2% prevalence of concomitant FM in the patients with chronic widespread pain. The 1990 ACR criteria were the most restrictive except for SLE. Although The 2010 ACR criteria had a wide spectrum, it can be used for FM diagnosis even in the patient with underlying rheumatic diseases.

The development of the Dutch version of the Fremantle Back Awareness Questionnaire.
Disturbed body perception may play a role in the aetiology of chronic low back pain (LBP). The Fremantle Back Awareness Questionnaire (FreBAQ) is currently the only self-report questionnaire to assess back-specific body perception in individuals with LBP. ⋯ The Dutch version of the FreBAQ can be considered as unidimensional and showed adequate internal consistency, sufficient test-retest reliability and adequate discriminant and construct validity in individuals with and without LBP. It can improve our understanding on back-specific perception in the Dutch-speaking population with LBP.

Patients with sickle cell anemia can experience recurrent pain episodes, which affect quality of life. The reported prevalence of pain is higher in studies using patient diaries than in healthcare facility utilization data. Determining Effects of Platelet Inhibition on Vaso-Occlusive Events was a multinational study that assessed the efficacy and safety of prasugrel in reducing the rate of vaso-occlusive events in children with sickle cell anemia (NCT01794000) and included an electronic patient-reported outcome diary to record pain occurrence. We aimed to capture diary completion rates and compliance in children who used the electronic patient-reported outcome diary during the Determining Effects of Platelet Inhibition on Vaso-Occlusive Events study and examine factors contributing to diary completion rates and compliance. ⋯ With appropriate design, participant training, and sufficient monitoring, an electronic patient-reported outcome diary can capture daily sickle cell-related pain data in large multinational studies. Providing a mechanism for caregiver reporting is particularly valuable for participants <6 years and may also facilitate compliance in older children who experience high levels of pain.

To identify recovery patterns in patients with a first episode of acute low back pain (LBP) and to define risk factors for unfavorable outcome. ⋯ These results suggest that an initial and regularly repeated assessment of pain intensity and functional disability is important. Initial pain intensity does not seem to be a prognostic factor per se, as it did not negatively affect recovery provided that it decreased early in treatment. Implications for Rehabilitation Prediction of outcome is particularly important in patients with a first episode of acute LBP as one third did not completely recover. Pain intensity and functional disability should be initially assessed and regularly repeated in the first phase of treatment. High initial pain intensity and disability combined with small pain reduction during the first week might predict unfavorable outcome and require adequate treatment.
