There is a wide range of animal models available today for studying chronic pain associated with a variety of etiologies and an extensive list of clinical manifestations of peripheral neuropathies. Photobiomodulation is a new tool for the treatment of pain in a convenient, noninvasive way. ⋯ These findings suggest that photobiomodulation therapy may be a useful adjunct treatment for chronic pain.

The mirogabalin ALDAY phase 3 program in pain associated with fibromyalgia: the lessons learned.
Aims: The main aim of this work was to identify and to share the lessons learned from the negative outcome of the mirogabalin ALDAY phase 3 clinical program in pain associated with fibromyalgia. These lessons are important to improve planning and design of future phase 3 programs in fibromyalgia. Methods: A systematic review from Cochrane Library, Medline, Embase, clinicaltrials.gov, pharmaceutical companies, and regulatory agencies' websites, was carried out starting from the development of gabapentin, the first α2δ ligand studied for the treatment of neuropathic pain and ending with the mirogabalin program. ⋯ Outcome: In terms of main lessons learned from ALDAY, the first was the need for a comprehensive patient-focused strategy to preliminarily identify the challenges of fibromyalgia based on patient perspective and study complexity. Second, there was a need for a harmonized, truly patient-centric, global regulatory guidance accepted by regulatory agencies. Third, ALDAY proved that a phase 2 proof of concept, dose ranging study is necessary before commencing any phase 3 program in fibromyalgia.

Tapentadol prolonged release for managing moderate to severe chronic neck pain with or without a neuropathic component.
Background: Despite the high prevalence of neck pain, few studies have addressed the pharmacological treatment of this condition. Purpose: We evaluated the effectiveness of tapentadol prolonged-release (PR) in patients with or without a neuropathic pain component, with a focus on functional movements, disability and Quality of Life (QoL). Study design/setting: Observational, retrospective study. ⋯ ROM significantly improved in all three planes of motion (p < .01), with no difference between the two groups. Interference of pain with sleep and QoL also improved. Conclusions: The reduction in pain provided by tapentadol is associated with functional recovery, which may in turn be linked to an improvement in QoL.

Intravenous Lidocaine for Chronic Neuropathic Pain A Systematic Review Addressing Nursing Care.
The intravenous administration of lidocaine for patients with chronic neuropathic pain is well documented in the literature. However, little is known about the role of the nurse caring for patients receiving the infusion. ⋯ Nursing care focuses on pain assessment, close observation and intervention if neurological changes occur.

Perineural Platelet-Rich Plasma for Diabetic Neuropathic Pain, Could It Make a Difference?
To evaluate the clinical effect of perineural platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection for pain and numbness alleviation in diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). ⋯ Perineural PRP injection is an effective therapy for alleviation of diabetic neuropathy pain and numbness and enhancement of peripheral nerve function.
