The effect of intraoperative lidocaine administration in a disrupted erector spinae fascial plane on intercostal transcranial motor evoked potentials.
Erector spinae plane (ESP) blocks have been recently described for postoperative pain management following spine surgery but their effects on intraoperative neuromonitoring are unknown. ⋯ The administration of a local anesthetic into a disrupted erector spinae fascial plane does not appear to interfere with intraoperative neuromonitoring of posterior spine fusion surgeries.

Motor-sparing peripatellar plexus block provides noninferior block duration and complete block area of the peripatellar region compared with femoral nerve block: a randomized, controlled, noninferiority study.
Developing adequate regional anaesthesia for knee surgeries without affecting lower limb mobilization is crucial to perioperative analgesia. However, reports in this regard are limited. We proposed a technique for ultrasound-guided peripatellar plexus (PP) block. Compared with the femoral nerve (FN) block, we hypothesized that this technique would provide a noninferior block duration and a complete cutaneous sensory block in the peripatellar region without affecting lower limb mobilization. An investigation was conducted to verify our hypothesis in cadavers and volunteers. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided PP block is a feasible technique. Compared with FN block, PP block provides noninferior block duration and complete blocking of the peripatellar region without affecting lower limb mobilization.

Aphonia Following Bilateral Cervical Plexus Blocks for an Awake Hemithyroidectomy: A Case Report.
A 35-year-old female patient was scheduled for a left hemithyroidectomy. We performed bilateral cervical plexus blocks with ultrasound guidance for an awake thyroidectomy. ⋯ After an uneventful surgery, the patient spontaneously regained her normal voice in the postoperative period. The case report describes a previously unreported complication of aphonia presumably due to bilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve blocks, which might have occurred from the infiltrated local anesthetic extravasating to the deeper planes through the cervical fascia.
