Paravertebral block reduces pain in elderly patients with percutaneous nephrolithotomy: A randomized controlled study protocol.
To assess the effectiveness of paravertebral block for the percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) patients. ⋯ In comparison with traditional analgesia, the ultrasound-guided paraventric block is an effective analgesic approach in PCNL, and no additional complications are encountered.

Minimum effective volume of ropivacaine for ultrasound-guided supra-inguinal fascia iliaca compartment block.
Supra inguinal fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB) is increasingly used in elderly patients with hip fractures. However, the minimum effective volume of local anesthetics required for ultrasound-guided supra-inguinal FICB has not been determined. With ethical committee approval and written informed consent from patients, we studied 21 consecutive patients of ASA physical status I-III undergoing surgery for hip fracture who met the inclusion criteria. ⋯ EV50 and EV95 of 0.25% ropivacaine for ultrasound-guided supra-inguinal FICB calculated with logistic regression analysis were 15.01 ml (95% confidence interval, 6.53-22.99 ml) and 26.99 ml (95% confidence interval, 20.54-84.09 ml), respectively. EV50 and EV95 of 0.25% ropivacaine for ultrasound-guided supra-inguinal FICB were 15.01 ml and 26.99 ml, respectively. Serratus anterior plane block versus intercostal nerve block for postoperative analgesic effect after video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy: A randomized prospective study.
Serratus anterior plane block (SAPB) and intercostal nerve block (ICNB) are attractive options for multimodal analgesia in patients undergoing thoracoscopic surgery, but which block is superior remains unclear. ⋯ Results of the present study do not clarify whether SAPB or ICNB has a superior effect on reducing pain after VATS, thereby suggesting they may exert similar analgesic effects.

Ultrasound-guided erector spinae block for post-thoracotomy pain syndrome in video-assisted thoracic surgery.
This article describes our experience with 5 patients with post-thoracotomy pain syndrome after video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomies, treated with weekly erector spinae plane block. We injected corticosteroid and local anesthetic. At the end of the treatment period, pain scores decreased significantly. Our experience suggests that erector spinae plane block may have a role in the treatment of post-thoracoscopy pain syndrome.
