The aim of this study was to address the limited understanding of neuropathic pain (NP) among burn survivors by comprehensively examining its prevalence and related factors on a national scale using the Burn Model System (BMS) National Database. ⋯ This study highlights the significant prevalence of NP in burn patients and its adverse impacts on their physical, psychological, and social well-being. The findings underscore the necessity of a comprehensive approach to NP treatment, addressing both physical symptoms and psychosocial factors.

Cytomegalovirus Infection in Adult Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Literature Review.
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is classified within the Herpesvirales order and is prevalent in 50%‒80% of the general population. Most carriers experience this infection without noticeable clinical symptoms. HCMV causes a lifelong latent infection that can be reactivated due to immune disorders and inflammation. ⋯ In this review, we aim to address an updated insight into aspects related to the CMV colitis in IBD patients including epidemiology, risk factors, clinical features, diagnostic tests, histology, place of immunosuppressants and indications for antiviral treatment. We suggest for personalized and thorough assessment based on the disease phase and colitis severity when prescribing drugs to these patients. Furthermore, we emphasize the importance of regular patient follow-up to monitor drug side effects, ensuring treatment success, and minimizing the risk of colectomy.

Minimum and Optimal CA19-9 Response After Two Months Induction Chemotherapy in Patients with Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer: A Nationwide Multicenter Study.
This nationwide multicenter study aimed to define clinically relevant thresholds of relative serum CA19-9 response after 2 months of induction chemotherapy in patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC). ⋯ CA19-9 decrease of ≥60% following induction chemotherapy as optimal response cut-off in patients with LAPC is an independent predictor for OS when CA19-9 is increased at baseline. Furthermore, ≥40% is the minimum cut-off demonstrating survival benefit. These cut-offs may be used when discussing treatment strategies during early response evaluation.

Emulated Trial for Discharge Prescription of Guideline-Directed Medical Therapy and 15-Year Survival After Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery.
To explore admission and discharge prescription rates of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT), defined as aggregate antiplatelet agents, statins, and β-blockers, after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery and to reveal its association with long-term survival. ⋯ The use of aggregate GDMT before surgery conferred a greater likelihood of GDMT prescription upon discharge, which, in turn, is associated with better long-term survival. Educational efforts of pertinent medical professionals are needed to minimize preventive treatment gaps.

Nonaccidental trauma (NAT), or child abuse, is a leading cause of childhood injury and death in the US. Studies demonstrate that military-affiliated individuals are at greater risk of mental health complication and family violence, including child maltreatment. There is limited information about the outcomes of military children who experience NAT. This study compares the outcomes between military-dependent and civilian children diagnosed with NAT. ⋯ Military-affiliated children diagnosed with NAT experience more adverse outcomes than civilian patients. Increased LOS, morbidity or complication, and mortality suggest military-affiliated patients experience more life-threatening NAT at a younger age. Larger studies are required to further examine this population and better support at-risk families.
