ReviewScreening for Social Determinants of Health in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit: Recommendations for Clinicians.
Social determinants of health (SDoH) play a significant role in the health and well-being of children in the United States. Disparities in the risk and outcomes of critical illness have been extensively documented but are yet to be fully explored through the lens of SDoH. In this review, we provide justification for routine SDoH screening as a critical first step toward understanding the causes of, and effectively addressing health disparities affecting critically ill children. Second, we summarize important aspects of SDoH screening that need to be considered before implementing this practice in the pediatric critical care setting.

ReviewPediatric Critical Care in the Twenty-first Century and Beyond.
Pediatric critical care addresses prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of organ dysfunction in the setting of increasingly complex patients, therapies, and environments. Soon burgeoning data science will enable all aspects of intensive care: driving facilitated diagnostics, empowering a learning health-care environment, promoting continuous advancement of care, and informing the continuum of critical care outside the intensive care unit preceding and following critical illness/injury. Although novel technology will progressively objectify personalized critical care, humanism, practiced at the bedside, defines the essence of pediatric critical care now and in the future.

Multicenter StudyInstitution-free days after critical illness: A multicenter retrospective study.
Patient-centered outcomes beyond mortality such as institution-free days (IFD) are becoming increasingly relevant in critical care trials. ⋯ IFD is a simple, easily measurable patient-centered outcome that varies depending on the definition used. Patient input should be sought to define the optimum definition and clinical use of IFD.

Multidisciplinary ICU recovery clinic visits: A qualitative analysis of patient-provider dialogues.
Research confirms the heterogeneous nature of patient challenges during recovery from the ICU and supports the need for modifying care experiences, but few data are available to guide clinicians seeking to support patients' individual recovery trajectories. ⋯ Patients surviving a critical illness experience a complexity of problems that may be addressed best by a multidisciplinary ICU-RC. Through analysis of our telemedicine ICU-RC dialogues, we were able to identify problems and solutions to address challenges during a critical transitional phase of ICU recovery.

Device for remote and realtime monitoring of neonatal vital signs in neonatal intensive care unit using internet of things: proof-of-concept study.
Realtime and remote monitoring of neonatal vital signs is a crucial part of providing appropriate care in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) to reduce mortality and morbidity of newborns. In this study, a new approach, a device for remote and real-time monitoring of neonatal vital signs (DRRMNVS) in the neonatal intensive care unit using the internet of things (IoT), was proposed. The system integrates four vital signs: oxygen saturation, pulse rate, body temperature and respiration rate for continuous monitoring using the Blynk app and ThingSpeak IoT platforms. ⋯ The developed DRRMNVS device was cheap and had acceptable measurement accuracy of vital signs in a controlled environment. The system has the potential to advance healthcare service delivery for neonates with further development from this proof-of-concept level.
