What services are available and where racial and ethnic minorities receive long-term services and supports (LTSS) have resulted in a lower quality of care and life for racial/ethnic minority users. These disparities are only likely to worsen during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the pandemic has disproportionately affected racial and ethnic minority communities both in the rate of infection and virus-related mortality. By examining these disparities in the context of the pandemic, we bring to light the challenges and issues faced in LTSS by minority communities with regard to this virus as well as the disparities in LTSS that have always existed.

Why Challenge Trials of SARS-CoV-2 Vaccines Could Be Ethical Despite Risk of Severe Adverse Events.
Human challenge trials to test the efficacy of vaccine candidates against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus behind Covid-19, could save considerable time and many lives. But they may initially seem unethical because they expose healthy volunteers to a live virus that is killing many people and for which no cure exists. ⋯ The correct test is comparative. And in the special circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, human challenge trials meet the correct test better than standard efficacy testing would.

Knowing the infection fatality rate (IFR) of novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) infections is essential for the fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Using data through April 20, 2020, I fit a statistical model to COVID-19 case fatality rates over time at the US county level to estimate the COVID-19 IFR among symptomatic cases (IFR-S) as time goes to infinity. The IFR-S in the US was estimated to be 1.3 percent. ⋯ When used with other estimating approaches, my model and estimates can help disease and policy modelers obtain more accurate predictions for the epidemiology of the disease and the impact of various policy levers to contain the pandemic. The model could also be used with future pandemics to get an early sense of the magnitude of symptomatic infection at the population level before other direct estimates are available. Substantial variation across patient demographics likely exists and should be the focus of future studies.

Through live video streaming, it helps to improve surveillance systems on the ongoing situation.
