Sarcopenia causes a variety of functional impairments and is associated with all-cause mortality, but once it occurs, it is difficult to treat and reverse. However, the prevalence of sarcopenia in healthy people has never been investigated due to the low awareness of sarcopenia in healthy people. This cross-sectional study was conducted in a single health promotion center from the January 1st 2020 to the December 31st 2021. ⋯ Low BMI and high body fat percentage increase the risk of low SMI. Compared to normal and low SMI based on obesity, Sex, height, BW, abdominal skinfold, and waist circumflex showed significant P values in both groups. The factors related to low SMI were TG, HDL, and uric acid levels.

This study aimed to analyze the association of lifestyle habits (physical activity, sleep habits, and eating habits) with cardiovascular risk (arterial stiffness and autonomic nervous system function) among sedentary adults. Sixty adults of sedentariness and physical activity were evaluated by accelerometers; sleep and eating habits were assessed by questionnaires; cardiovascular risks were assessed by pulse wave velocity (PWV), ankle-brachial index, flow mediated dilation, and heart rate variability; circulating biomarkers were also determined. Prolonged sitting (represented by longer maximum length of sedentary bouts, lower length of sedentary breaks, and more total time of sitting) were (P < .05) significantly associated with matrix metalloproteinases, neuropeptide Y, C-reactive protein, peptide Y, ghrelin, and leptin; significant associations (P < .05) were also observed of total time in physical activity with most circulating biomarkers except interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α, and adiponectin. ⋯ Eating habits (including emotional overeating and enjoyment of food) were (P < .05) significantly associated with PWVs and flow mediated dilation; satiety responsiveness and enjoyment of food were (P < .05) significantly associated with low-frequency spectral component expressed in normalized units, high frequency spectral component expressed in normalized units, and ratio between low-frequency/high frequency spectral component expressed in normalized units. The findings indicated that several lifestyle habits among sedentary adults were closely associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Sedentary people were encouraged to live with sufficient physical activity, good sleep, and healthy eating habits for decreasing arterial stiffness and balancing autonomic nervous function.

The objective was to explore the relationships between computed tomography (CT) lung volume parameters and pulmonary function test (PFT) indexes and develop predictive scores to predict PFT indexes in Chinese preoperative patients suspected with lung cancer. Preoperative patients suspected with lung cancer aged 18 years or more and examined by chest CT scan and PET were consecutively recruited from April to August 2020, at Yunnan Cancer Hospital. CT and PET data were selected from medical record. ⋯ The area under the curve of receiver operating characteristics for FEV1 <2L, FEV1% <80%, FEV1/FVC <80% and FVC% <80% were 0.856, 0.667, 0.749 and 0.715, respectively. A prediction of poor lung function in preoperative patients suspected with lung cancer, using total lung volume and percent of low attenuation volume was possible. The predictive scores should be further evaluated for external validity.

Suicide is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Psychache (psychological pain) and diminished tolerance of psychaches are important risk factors for suicide. People experiencing psychaches of similar severity may not demonstrate the same levels of tolerance because of various coping skills. ⋯ Mediation analyses revealed that dysfunctional coping skills played a partial mediating role in the relationship between psychache and the TMPS. The study revealed that dysfunctional coping skills were related to suicidal ideation and previous suicide attempts. These findings suggest that improving coping skills could help reduce the severity of suicidal ideation.

Dupilumab for COPD with Type 2 Inflammation Indicated by Eosinophil Counts.
In some patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), type 2 inflammation may increase exacerbation risk and may be indicated by elevated blood eosinophil counts. Dupilumab, a fully human monoclonal antibody, blocks the shared receptor component for interleukin-4 and interleukin-13, key drivers of type 2 inflammation. ⋯ Among patients with COPD who had type 2 inflammation as indicated by elevated blood eosinophil counts, those who received dupilumab had fewer exacerbations, better lung function and quality of life, and less severe respiratory symptoms than those who received placebo. (Funded by Sanofi and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals; BOREAS ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT03930732.).
