Phase 1 Trial of Antibody NI006 for Depletion of Cardiac Transthyretin Amyloid.
Transthyretin amyloid (ATTR) cardiomyopathy is a progressive and fatal disease caused by misfolded transthyretin. Despite advances in slowing disease progression, there is no available treatment that depletes ATTR from the heart for the amelioration of cardiac dysfunction. NI006 is a recombinant human anti-ATTR antibody that was developed for the removal of ATTR by phagocytic immune cells. ⋯ In this phase 1 trial of the recombinant human antibody NI006 for the treatment of patients with ATTR cardiomyopathy and heart failure, the use of NI006 was associated with no apparent drug-related serious adverse events. An ankle foot orthosis (AFO) is a standard type of orthosis applied to immediately treat foot drop symptoms. Kinesiology taping (KT) is a therapeutic method used in patients with neurological diseases, such as stroke, as well as in patients after orthopedic and sports injuries. This study aimed to compare outcomes of AFO treatment with those of KT to investigate the effect on gait ability in patients with foot drop after stroke. ⋯ As a result, gait ability after treatment with KT and that after treatment with AFO showed no significant differences in cadence (P = .851), velocity (P = .865), swing time (P = .289 and .123), stance time (P = .255 and .711), step length (P = .955 and .975), and stride length (P = .711 and .690) of the affected and less-affected limbs. This study demonstrated that KT and AFO use have similar effects on gait function in patients with foot drop after stroke. Thus, treatment of foot drop with KT may be an alternative in patients for whom AFO use is contraindicated.

To investigate the effect of the induced membrane technique (IMT) in the treatment of infected tibial bone defect. IMT is a 2-stage procedure dedicated to reconstruction of bone defects of the limbs. Treating injuries of the tibia characterized by segmental bone loss, severe damage to the soft tissue, and a conjoining infection is a challenge using IMT. ⋯ At a mean follow-up of 18.08 months (range 12-32), bone union was achieved in all cases in a mean time of 8 months (range 5-16) without infection recurrence, where 1 patient received additional bone grafting. The joint function recovered well for the patients and the rate of functionally excellent and good results was 9/12. IMT in the treatment of infected tibial bone defect offers the advantages of simple operation, use of a smaller amount of autograft bone, and low recurrence rate of infection.

A prospective observational study of optimal acupoint selection on patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders.
Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs), which include irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and functional dyspepsia (FD), are common gastrointestinal (GI) diseases that have a large financial impact on patients' quality of life (QoL). Traditional Korean medicine has a particular diagnostic pattern for treating FGIDs. However, FGIDs have not been thoroughly explored because of their complexity. In this proposed study, we will investigate the acupoint selection pattern for FGID patients with various disease patterns, and further determine the best acupoints for treating FGID patients using a machine-learning algorithm. ⋯ This will be the first multi-center observational registry study to assess how traditional Korean medical practitioners diagnose and treat patients in the real world. The findings will shed light on how traditional Korean medicine treats FGIDs and demonstrate the rationale for the diagnostic and acupuncture treatment flow.
