Modified bazhen decoction (MBZD) is a classical Chinese medicine formula with potential efficacy in the treatment of chronic cerebral circulation insufficiency (CCCI), and its main components and potential mechanisms are still unclear. The study aimed to investigate the active ingredients and mechanism of action of MBZD in treating CCCI through network pharmacology combined with molecular docking. The chemical composition and targets of 11 Chinese herbs in MBZD were retrieved utilizing the traditional Chinese medicine systems pharmacology database and analysis platform platform, and the targets for CCCI were screened by Genecards, online mendelian inheritance in man, therapeutic target database, and comparative toxicogenomics database databases. ⋯ The central core targets were IL6, MAPK14, signal transducer and activator of transcription 3, RELA, VEGFA, CCND1, CASP3, AR, FOS, JUN, EGFR, MAPK1, AKT1, MYC, and ESR1; gene ontology functional enrichment analysis yielded 911 gene ontology items (P < .01), while Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment yielded 138 signal pathways (P < .01), primarily including oxidative reactions, vascular regulation, apoptosis, and PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. The molecular docking results showed that the core active component of MBZD had good binding with the main target. This research initially uncovered the mechanism of action of MBZD via multi-component-multi-target-multi-pathway for the treatment of CCCI, providing the theoretical basis for the clinical application of MBZD.

This study aimed to analyze the association of lifestyle habits (physical activity, sleep habits, and eating habits) with cardiovascular risk (arterial stiffness and autonomic nervous system function) among sedentary adults. Sixty adults of sedentariness and physical activity were evaluated by accelerometers; sleep and eating habits were assessed by questionnaires; cardiovascular risks were assessed by pulse wave velocity (PWV), ankle-brachial index, flow mediated dilation, and heart rate variability; circulating biomarkers were also determined. Prolonged sitting (represented by longer maximum length of sedentary bouts, lower length of sedentary breaks, and more total time of sitting) were (P < .05) significantly associated with matrix metalloproteinases, neuropeptide Y, C-reactive protein, peptide Y, ghrelin, and leptin; significant associations (P < .05) were also observed of total time in physical activity with most circulating biomarkers except interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α, and adiponectin. ⋯ Eating habits (including emotional overeating and enjoyment of food) were (P < .05) significantly associated with PWVs and flow mediated dilation; satiety responsiveness and enjoyment of food were (P < .05) significantly associated with low-frequency spectral component expressed in normalized units, high frequency spectral component expressed in normalized units, and ratio between low-frequency/high frequency spectral component expressed in normalized units. The findings indicated that several lifestyle habits among sedentary adults were closely associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Sedentary people were encouraged to live with sufficient physical activity, good sleep, and healthy eating habits for decreasing arterial stiffness and balancing autonomic nervous function.

A common occurrence in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is metabolic acidosis. Sodium bicarbonate (SB) has been widely used, but there is insufficient evidence on how SB affects neonates in NICUs with metabolic acidosis. The worsening of intracellular acidosis, the impairment of myocardial function, fluctuations in cerebral blood flow, and intracranial hemorrhage are some of the unfavorable effects of SB treatment in neonates that have been documented in the literature. ⋯ The findings show that 91.2% of neonatologists were using SB to correct metabolic acidosis in the NICU; 71.4% did not have written guidelines for using sodium bicarbonate. The majority of them (78.9%) reported that dosage is included in their guidelines for the use of ISB. The findings of this study emphasize the critical importance of providing guidelines in using ISB for managing metabolic acidosis in NICU to standardize procedures and reduce the use of potentially unsuitable and unsafe treatments, as it has been shown that 71.4% of neonatologists worldwide use sodium bicarbonate without guidelines.

Stress is inevitable in humans and stress changes our physical and mental states. Stress has been studied epidemiologically, biologically, and psychologically. First defined in 1990, emotional intelligence (EI) affects psychological stress management. ⋯ EI may play a vital role in reducing stress associated with depression and anxiety in our social lives. Although we failed to show a statistical correlation between TEIQue-SF and [Oxy-Hb] due to a sample size shortage, our preliminary study was the first to attempt to show the PFC activity of EI through a hemodynamic response. Future research may elucidate the role of EI in reducing psychological stress in social life.

Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder, with persistent insomnia being associated with greater risk and leading to a range of functional consequences that place a heavy burden on patients and healthcare systems. A weight of evidence has shown that complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) seems to have a positive effect on improving sleep. However, the research trends of CAM intervention for insomnia have not been studied systematically through bibliometrics. ⋯ Mental condition and quality of life in patients with insomnia, insomnia related to cancer, effect of mindfulness meditation, yoga and aromatherapy on insomnia and the psychiatric symptoms resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic are at the forefront of this field. In this study, bibliometrics and visualization analysis were performed on related studies on CAM intervention for insomnia. This will be the focus and development direction of insomnia treatment in the future to formulate structured treatment plans for traditional Chinese medicine-related CAM, validate large-scale clinical trials, solve cancer comorbidity insomnia and related psychiatric symptoms and deal with mental health-related insomnia after public health outbreaks.
