ReviewRisk factors, Treatment and Outcomes of Subacute Thyroiditis Secondary to COVID-19: A Systematic Review.
COVID-19 is known to cause an acute respiratory illness, although clinical manifestations outside of the respiratory tract may occur. Early reports have identified SARS-CoV-2 as a cause of subacute thyroiditis (SAT). ⋯ COVID-19-associated SAT may be difficult to identify in a timely manner due to potential absence of classic symptoms, as well as cross-over of common clinical features between COVID-19 and thyrotoxicosis.

Despite the wide variety of Covid-19 symptoms, pain and the related mechanisms underlying unsettled nociceptive status are still under-prioritized. Understanding the complex network of Covid-19-related pain may result in new lines of study. It is unknown whether patient's immunological background influences pain in the acute phase of Covid-19, including musculoskeletal pain. Thus, we evaluated the blood levels of selected molecules that are upregulated in SARS-CoV-2 infection and analyzed a possible correlation with pain during Covid-19. ⋯ IL-10 has been described over the years as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic cytokine. The present data support that low IL-10 levels might contribute to Covid-19-associated pain.

Nucleic acid testing is a reliable method for diagnosing viral infection in clinical samples. However, when the number of cases is huge and there are individual differences in the virus itself, the probability of false-negative results increases. With the advancement in research on the new coronavirus, new detection technologies that use serum-specific antibodies as detection targets have been developed. These detection technologies have high efficiency and shorter turnaround time, which ultimately shortens the time required for diagnosis. This article summarizes the methods that have been reported to date for the detection of the new coronavirus and discusses their principles and technical characteristics. ⋯ With the advancement of technology and the improvement of methods, the detection methods of SARSCoV-2 have become more mature. These advances provided great help to the detection of SARS-CoV-2.

Light chain (AL) amyloidosis is a potentially fatal disease of monoclonal plasma cells that leads to accumulation of light chain amyloid fibrils, organ damage, and the manifestations of clinical disease. Meanwhile, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a disease caused by infection with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus, with the potential to cause severe systemic illness and death. ⋯ This overlap creates unique challenges in caring for patients with AL amyloidosis, which are further compounded by the immunosuppressive nature of anti-plasma cell therapies, the need for frequent clinical assessments, and the exclusion of AL amyloidosis patients from initial COVID-19 vaccine trials. Herein, we highlight many of the relevant concerns related to COVID-19 and the treatment of AL amyloidosis, summarize a general approach for AL amyloidosis management amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and discuss current guidance about COVID-19 vaccination of patients with AL amyloidosis.
