Prediction of renal function improvement in azotemic patients using glomerular filtration rate from 99mTc-DTPA renal scan: An observational study.
This study aimed to evaluate the ratio of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) from 99mTc-diethylenetriamine-pentaacetic acid dynamic renal scan (GFRSCAN) to estimated GFR (eGFR) as a predictor of renal function improvement in patients with azotemia. A retrospective review of medical records was conducted to identify consecutive patients with newly discovered or aggravated azotemia who underwent 99mTc-diethylenetriamine-pentaacetic acid renal scan. Significant renal function improvement was defined as ≥100% and ≥10 mL/min improvement of eGFR at 12 weeks compared to eGFR on the day of renal scan (eGFR0). ⋯ The addition of the GFRSCAN/eGFR0 ratio to the best clinical prediction model raised the area under the ROC curve from 0.726 to 0.794, and this increment was statistically significant (P = .02). The GFRSCAN/eGFR ratio can predict renal function improvement in patients with azotemia. Future prospective studies are necessary to validate its potential clinical utilities.

SARS-CoV-2 is the virus responsible for coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) disease, which has been shown to trigger multiple affectations. One of the first tissue areas to come into contact with the virus is the oral cavity, which develops various alterations. Hence, the objective of this systematic review was to identify the main signs and symptoms of this disease in the oral cavity, and the following research question was established: What are the main oral signs and symptoms in COVID-19-positive persons? ⋯ It is very important to detect any alteration in the mucosa in patients with COVID-19 and to provide assertive treatment to avoid complications, and try to maintain adequate oral hygiene throughout the course of the disease to avoid the colonization of opportunistic microorganisms and to avoid complications both orally and systemically.

The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia which is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS CoV-2) virus is the current urgent issue world over. According to the Health Ministry of Turkey, the first COVID-19 patient was diagnosed on March 11, 2020. Since then, approximately 5.5 million patients have been confirmed to be positive SARS CoV-2 virus. ⋯ Furthermore, 20% of patients were found to be positive using IgG antibody against to SARS CoV-2 virus. Our findings showed that HRCT could be most prominent technique compared to real time polymerase chain reaction for the diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia. The novel classification of HRCT findings will be helpful to early diagnosis of the disease, time saving and eventually cost-effective.

Differences in IgG Antibody Responses following BNT162b2 and mRNA-1273 SARS-CoV-2 Vaccines.
Studies examining antibody responses by vaccine brand are lacking and may be informative for optimizing vaccine selection, dosage, and regimens. The purpose of this study is to assess IgG antibody responses following immunization with BNT162b2 (30 μg mRNA) and mRNA-1273 (100 μg mRNA) vaccines. A cohort of clinicians at a nonprofit organization is being assessed clinically and serologically following immunization with BNT162b2 or mRNA-1273. ⋯ We found that, following the second dose, spike protein antibodies were higher with mRNA-1273 than with BNT162b2. This is biologically plausible, since mRNA-1273 delivers a larger amount of mRNA (100 μg mRNA) than BNT162b2 (30 μg mRNA), which is translated into spike protein. This difference may need to be urgently translated into changes in the manufacturing process and dose regimens of these vaccines.
