High flow nasal cannula in the immediate post-operative period: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Studies have demonstrated that high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) prevents intubation in acute hypoxic respiratory failure when compared with conventional oxygen therapy (COT). However, the data examining routine HFNC use in the immediate postoperative period are less clear. ⋯ With evidence of moderate certainty, prophylactic HFNC reduces reintubation and escalation of respiratory support compared with COT in the immediate postoperative period after cardiothoracic surgery. This effect is likely driven by patients who are at high risk and/or obese. These findings support postoperative prophylactic HFNC use in the patients who are at high risk and/or obese undergoing cardiothoracic surgery.

Pocket pain, does location matter: a single-centre retrospective study of patients implanted with a spinal cord stimulator.
Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is an effective therapy for alleviating pain but reported complication rates vary between healthcare centers. This study explored the prevalence of pain associated with Implantable Pulse Generators (IPGs), the component that powers the SCS system. ⋯ These findings suggest that IPG site pain is a common complication, contributing to SCS revisions and explantation. This study shows that anatomical factors and baseline characteristics of individual patients may contribute to IPG site pain and indicates that exploration of potential factors leading to IPG revision is required.

Thoracic surgery during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in Madrid, Spain: single-centre report.
We reviewed the incidence of coronavirus disease 2019 cases and the postoperative outcomes of patients who had thoracic surgery during the beginning and at the highest point of transmission in our community. ⋯ These results indicate that, in properly selected cases, with short preoperative in-hospital stays, strict isolation and infection control protocols, managed by a dedicated multidisciplinary team, a surgical procedure could be performed with a relatively low risk for the patient.

Diffuse Cerebral Vasospasm After Removal of a Posterior Fossa Hemangioblastoma in a 62-year-old Female.
The development of diffuse cerebral vasospasm after the removal of a brain tumor is extremely rare. We report a case of cerebral vasospasm after the removal of a posterior fossa hemangioblastoma. ⋯ Although the occurrence of diffuse cerebral vasospasm after the removal of brain tumors in the posterior fossa is rare, this complication should be noted as a potential postoperative complication after tumor removal; this should lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment and a potentially better prognosis.
