Evaluation of the association between intraoperative hypotension (IOH) and important postoperative outcomes after liver transplant such as incidence and severity of acute kidney injury (AKI), MACE and early allograft dysfunction (EAD). ⋯ Our results did not show the association between IOH and investigated outcomes.

Racial minorities have been found to have worse health care outcomes, including perioperative adverse events. We hypothesized that these racial disparities may be mitigated in a military treatment facility, where all patients have a military service connection and are universally insured. ⋯ Risk-adjusted surgical complication rates do not vary by race at this military treatment facility. This suggests that postoperative racial disparities may be mitigated within a universal health care system.

The CARDOT scores have been developed for prediction of respiratory complications after thoracic surgery. This study aimed to externally validate the CARDOT score and assess the predictive value of preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) for postoperative respiratory complication. ⋯ The CARDOT score showed a good discriminative performance in the external validation dataset. An addition of a high NLR significantly increases the predictive performance of CARDOT score. The utility of this score is valuable in settings with limited access to preoperative pulmonary function testing.

Retrospective cohort study. ⋯ Postoperative nutritional supplementation significantly reduces wound complications after spinal fusion surgery in a cost-effective manner. This study underscores the modifiability of certain perioperative risk factors and suggests that nutritional strategies can mitigate potential complications.
