Staged Versus Same-Day Surgery in Circumferential Minimally Invasive Deformity Correction.
We sought to compare long-term clinical and radiographic outcomes in patients who underwent staged vs same-day circumferential minimally invasive surgery (cMIS) for adult spinal deformity (ASD). ⋯ Patients undergoing staged or same-day cMIS correction had similar outcomes at 2 years postoperatively. Staged cMIS ASD correction may be more appropriate in patients with greater deformity, higher frailty, and who require longer, more extensive surgeries.

To provide a nationwide description of postoperative outcomes and analysis of prognostic factors following adrenalectomy for metastases. ⋯ The number of patients who can receive local treatment for adrenal metastases is rising, and adrenalectomy is more often minimally invasive and has a low morbidity rate. Subsequent research should evaluate which patients would benefit from adrenal surgery.

The HSACAT Project: A Prospective Multicentre Observational Study of Spontaneous Subarachnoid Haemorrhage in Catalonia (Spain).
Incidence, clinical course, and fatality of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) are evolving, with prevalence of risk factors diminishing, implementation of early detection programs and strategies for priority aneurysm exclusion, technical refinement with less invasive procedures, and improvements in neurocritical care. Modern epidemiological and prognostic data are lacking, especially in southern European and Mediterranean populations. ⋯ Even when most patients received timely aneurysm treatment, case fatality rates were considerably high. Data provided by the HSACat project may have public health effects and be used to guide prevention programs and screening strategies.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyVentricular Assist Device using a Thoracotomybased Implant Technique: Multi-center HeartMate 3 SWIFT Study.
The HeartMate 3 (Abbott) left ventricular assist device provides substantial improvement in long-term morbidity and mortality in patients with advanced heart failure. The Implantation of the HeartMate 3 in Subjects With Heart Failure Using Surgical Techniques Other Than Full Median Sternotomy study compares thoracotomy-based implantation clinical outcomes with standard median sternotomy. ⋯ Thoracotomy-based implantation of the HeartMate 3 left ventricular assist device is noninferior to implantation via standard full sternotomy. This study supports thoracotomy-based implantation as an additional standard for surgical implantation of the HeartMate 3 left ventricular assist device.

Identification and outcomes of acute kidney disease in patients presenting in Bolivia, Brazil, South Africa, and Nepal.
The International Society of Nephrology proposes an acute kidney disease (AKD) management strategy that includes a risk score to aid AKD identification in low- and low-middle-income countries (LLMICs). We investigated the performance of the risk score and determined kidney and patient outcomes from AKD at multiple LLMIC sites. ⋯ The use of a risk score can aid AKD identification in LLMICs. High rates of persistent kidney disease and mortality after discharge highlight the importance of AKD follow-up in low-resource settings.
