Physical activities, such as resistance training and walking, are known to be effective against chronic low back pain (CLBP). However, few studies have examined the associations of walking and resistance training with CLBP in the general older population. Therefore, this study analyzed these relationships in the older Korean population (aged ≥65 years), with the goal of determining which exercise is better for CLBP. ⋯ In this cross-sectional study, walking was associated with a lower risk of CLBP. In particular, walking >5days per week had the maximum benefit in a lower risk of CLBP. Therefore, clinicians can consider recommending walking to patients with CLBP for optimal pain improvement.

Spine pain is one of the largest and costliest burdens to our healthcare systems. While evidence-based guidelines for spine pain have been established, and continue to evolve, the actual management of this condition continues to burden the healthcare system. This has led to increased costs due to inefficient entry to healthcare, utilization of treatments unsupported by clinical guidelines, and patient navigation through our healthcare systems. The purpose of this study was to assess the healthcare utilization and related outcomes for Active Duty Service Members (ADSM) receiving healthcare services in a novel acute spine pain clinic (ASPC) during the first 5 years of operation at a large Military Treatment Facility. ⋯ This innovative approach demonstrates the potential benefits of rapid access to treatment and education for patients with acute spine pain by a Physical Therapist. Modeling this approach at Military Treatment Facilities may lead to decreased utilization of medications, radiology services, specialty care referrals, and reduced cost of care provided to individuals with acute spine pain.

Functional improvement is a critical outcome for individuals living with chronic pain. Graded exposure treatment (GET) has been associated with statistically significant improvements in functional outcomes for youth with chronic pain by targeting pain-related fear and avoidance. ⋯ Examining reliable and clinically meaningful change (vs. statistical significance alone) provides a way to examine treatment response to an intervention and to enhance the interpretability of findings, helping to bridge the gap between clinical trials and clinical practice by providing guidelines for interpretation.

Diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (D-IBS) is the main subtypes of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In recent years, more than half of IBS patients have received complementary and alternative medicine. Traditional Chinese herbal formula is widely used in Asia, and clinical studies have also found that Chinese herbal formula could significantly improve abdominal pain and diarrhea. We plan to carry out a randomized, controlled, double blind, clinical studies to observe the clinical efficacy of Qinghua Zhixie decoction in the treatment of D-IBS. ⋯ The findings of the study will identify the safety and efficacy of Qinghua Zhixie decoction in the treatment of D-IBS.

Pain accounts for up to 78% of emergency department (ED) patient visits and opioids remain a primary method of treatment despite risks of addiction and adverse effects.
