The COVID-19 outbreak has been a great challenge in the management of chronic pain patients. We have conducted a rapid scoping review to assess the impact of the pandemic (and the associated public health measures) on the health status and management practices of chronic pain patients in Spain. ⋯ The review showed that (1) the studies consistently indicate that the pandemic has had a very negative impact on the physical and psychological health of chronic pain patients; (2) there are scarce data on how the pandemic affected pain unit consultations and a lack of protocols to organize health care in the face of future waves of contagion, with little implementation of telehealth. We make proposals to improve management of chronic pain patients in pandemic situations, which should pivot around 3 axes: (1) a coordinated response of all the relevant stakeholders to define a future roadmap and research priorities, (2) a biopsychosocial approach in pain management, and (3) development and implementation of novel telemedicine solutions.

In partnership with the Veterans Health Administration, in 2010, the Department of Defense/Veterans Health Administration Pain Management Task Force Final Report recommended a comprehensive pain management plan. Consequently, each Army medical center established an Interdisciplinary Pain Management Clinic (IPMC) for pain treatment, and each IPMC implements a multidisciplinary outpatient functional restoration program (FRP) as an alternative to or in addition to pharmacological therapy. This article reports our first-year FRP results at William Beaumont Army Medical Center IPMC. ⋯ Because of the lack of randomization and the small number of subjects (N = 32, 7 cohorts), unknown sources of bias may have influenced the results. Despite these limitations, the results from this report support the program's effectiveness and are consistent with the outcomes from FRP programs in other military facilities and in civilian studies.

Effect of magnetic stimulation of Shenmen point on cognitive function of chronic insomnia: A randomized controlled clinical trial.
Chronic insomnia (CI) can lead to cognitive dysfunction and bring great pain to patients' life. There is no effective intervention for cognitive dysfunction caused by CI. Shenmen (HT7) is the first choice for insomnia treatment. However, the effect and mechanism of this acupoint on cognitive function after insomnia is not clear. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore whether magnetic stimulation of HT7 can improve cognitive impairment of CI by regulating prefrontal lobe and its mechanism. ⋯ This study explored the effect and mechanism of magnetic stimulation of Shenmen (HT7) on cognitive function of CI, and confirmed that magnetic stimulation of HT7 can be used as an alternative therapy to improve cognitive impairment of CI.

The effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for scoliosis: A protocol for systematic review and/or meta-analysis.
Scoliosis is a disease that affects all age groups and alters the three-dimensional deviation of the spinal axis. It is diagnosed when Cobb angle presents over 10 degrees and the reasons include aging, traumatic injuries, unknown origin, and disorders of congenital, neurological, musculoskeletal, and connective tissue. Scoliosis treatments are divided into surgical and conservative options. Surgery can correct the curved spine but has associated risks and economic burden. Conservative treatments, particularly bracing, prevent the progression of scoliosis, but still remains potential ingredient of curvation and patients poor compliance. Recent studies reported that various types of acupuncture can improve the curvation and the associated pain. However, there has been no systematic review on this issue. Therefore, this study will review the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture on scoliosis. ⋯ Our study will be informative to scoliosis patients, clinicians, policy makers, and researchers working with conservative management for scoliosis.

Angina pectoris in coronary heart disease (CHD) is a common ischemic heart disease clinically. During the onset, patients often have symptoms such as chest discomfort or paroxysmal crushing pain in the posterior sternum, which seriously affects the quality of life of patients, and even can lead to myocardial infarction and endanger the lives of patients. Clinical studies have shown that the compound Chinese prescription Xuefu Zhuyu decoction combined with western medicine has a certain therapeutic effect on angina pectoris in CHD, but lack of evidence of evidence-based medicine. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Xuefu Zhuyu decoction combined with western medicine in the treatment of angina pectoris in CHD. ⋯ DOI 10.17605 / OSF.IO / GFEQ7.
