Pain catastrophizing is a significant factor in the recovery of patients with chronic pain. This topic has not received the warranted attention in clinical practice, while the outcomes of pain interventions have been suboptimal. This study explores the current situation of pain catastrophizing in patients with chronic neuropathic pain, its influencing factors, and further analyzes the complex relationship between these factors. ⋯ Pain severity, disease type, alexithymia, psychological resilience, and somatization all had a significant effect on pain catastrophizing. Healthcare workers must provide timely and accurate assessments of patients' pain levels to help prevent the onset of pain catastrophizing. Adopting measures to improve alexithymia and somatization symptoms, and focusing on enhancing patients' psychological resilience can also help reduce the level of pain catastrophizing. Cognitive behavioral therapy may be an effective treatment method for pain catastrophizing.

Support for Complicated Grief in Military Primary Care: Associations, Challenges, and Opportunities.
This study examined whether service members and their families engage in communication with their primary care managers (PCMs) regarding their losses and to what extent PCMs provide counseling or referrals for grief-related concerns. Additionally, the study explored the potential associations between ethnicity, age, military status (dependent, service member, or veteran), gender, patients' disclosure of loss to their PCM, receipt of referrals for grief-related services, and treatment seeking. ⋯ The study's findings have implications for primary care and highlight opportunities for improved outcomes, including the development of appropriate assessment protocols, interventions, and educational initiatives to address grief-related concerns within the military healthcare system. Future research should further investigate the specific needs and preferences of military personnel and their families to enhance the delivery of targeted and effective healthcare services.

Diagnostic Accuracy of the World Health Organization Pediatric Emergency Triage, Assessment and Treatment Tool Plus Among Patients Seeking Care in Nairobi, Kenya: A Cross-sectional Study.
The World Health Organization developed Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment Plus (ETAT+) guidelines to facilitate pediatric care in resource-limited settings. ETAT+ triages patients as nonurgent, priority, or emergency cases, but there is limited research on the performance of ETAT+ regarding patient-oriented outcomes. This study assessed the diagnostic accuracy of ETAT+ in predicting the need for hospital admission in a pediatric emergency unit at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. ⋯ ETAT+ demonstrated diagnostic accuracy for predicting patient need for hospital admission. This finding supports the utility of ETAT+ to inform emergency care practice. Further research on ETAT+ performance in larger populations and additional patient-oriented outcomes would enhance its generalizability and application in resource-limited settings.

Identifying prehospital trauma patients from ambulance patient care records; comparing two methods using linked data in New South Wales, Australia.
Linked datasets for trauma system monitoring should ideally follow patients from the prehospital scene to hospital admission and post-discharge. Having a well-defined cohort when using administrative datasets is essential because they must capture the representative population. Unlike hospital electronic health records (EHR), ambulance patient-care records lack access to sources beyond immediate clinical notes. Relying on a limited set of variables to define a study population might result in missed patient inclusion. We aimed to compare two methods of identifying prehospital trauma patients: one using only those documented under a trauma protocol and another incorporating additional data elements from ambulance patient care records. ⋯ The extended-T-population definition identified 50 % more admitted patients with an ICD-10-AM code consistent with an injury, including patients with severe trauma. Developing an EHR phenotype incorporating multiple data fields of ambulance-transported trauma patients for use with linked data may avoid missing these patients.

Functional motor disorder-the motor variant of functional neurological disorder-is a disabling condition that is commonly associated with poor health outcomes. Pathophysiological models have inspired new treatment approaches such as specialist physiotherapy, although evidence from large randomised controlled trials is absent.
