The operating room (OR) remains a challenging and hierarchical work environment within healthcare, where the attending surgeon functions as a team captain. Unprofessional behavior or disconnects in this environment can lead to breakdowns in teamwork and reports within the safety event reporting system (SERS).1 Interventions focused on remediating adverse behaviors and team interactions should optimize team function and potentially enhance patient outcomes. The aim of the present study focused on decreasing the SERS reports regarding behavior and communication disconnects from 11/2019 to 03/2023. ⋯ The multidisciplinary task force developed and adapted a process to address communication and behavioral concerns in an efficient and supportive manner, with the objective of restoring relationships amongst team members in the perioperative environment and de-weaponizing the SERS.

The Case for the Role of Primary Care in Patient Blood Management.
Patient blood management (PBM) is a patient-centered evidence-based strategy designed to preserve a patient's own blood and improve health outcomes. The effectiveness of PBM programs is now well-established globally within tertiary and secondary sectors, with demonstrable outcome benefits and cost savings. However, the role of primary care and the general practitioner in PBM is poorly understood. ⋯ The skill set of general practitioners in integrating and continuing care through the transition period after hospitalization is especially important. General practitioners are well-suited to the roles of health promotion and prevention, and have the potential to deliver substantial population health benefits. Given the public health imperative of this condition, it is vital that policy-makers appropriately support the role of general practitioners with financing, education, and resources for PBM in primary care.

To compare robotic-assisted proctectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (R-IPAA) outcomes and laparoscopic proctectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (L-IPAA) within a specialized robotic surgery center, using matching techniques to minimize potential confounding factors. ⋯ In a high-volume robotic surgery center, R-IPAA reduced the risk of conversion to open surgery while reducing intraoperative blood loss and providing shorter length of stay with equivalent perioperative outcomes. Promising trends to reduce 30-day reoperations and surgical complications following DLI closure were observed after a matching analysis.
