The need to improve spinal motor behaviour in chronic low back pain (CLBP) rehabilitation remains unclear. The objective of this study was to test if changes in spinal motor behaviour were associated with changes in disability after an interdisciplinary rehabilitation program (IRP) in patients with CLBP. ⋯ This study supports a multidimensional understanding and analysis of spinal motor behaviour, integrating the cognitive-emotional, pain-related and biomechanical domains. It also supports the consideration of spinal motor behaviour as a potentially important treatment target in chronic low back pain management. Moreover, it suggests that reducing movement-evoked pain and task-specific fear may have more influence on disability than changing lumbar amplitude, lumbar angular velocity or erector muscle activity, which may have important implications for rehabilitation.

Examine the association between prior SARS-CoV-2 infection, interval from infection to surgery, and adverse surgical outcomes. ⋯ In a contemporary surgical cohort, patients with prior SARS-CoV-2 infection only had increased postoperative mortality or complications when they had surgery within 14 days after the positive test. These findings support revising timing recommendations between surgery and prior SARS-CoV-2 infection.

With lumbar spine fusion being one of the most commonly performed spinal surgeries, investigating common complications such as adjacent segment disease (ASD) is a high priority. To the authors' knowledge, there are no previous studies investigating the utility of the preoperative magnetic resonance imaging-based vertebral bone quality (VBQ) score in predicting radiographic and surgical ASD after lumbar spine fusion. We aimed to investigate the predictive factors for radiographic and surgical ASD, focusing on the predictive potential of the VBQ score. ⋯ The VBQ scoring system might be a useful adjunct for predicting radiographic and surgical ASD.

Cerebral venous outflow disorders (CVDs) secondary to internal jugular vein (IJV) stenosis are becoming an increasingly recognized cause of significant cognitive and functional impairment in patients. There are little published data on IJV stenting for this condition. This study aims to report on procedural success. ⋯ Our experience, along with early published studies, suggests that there is significant promise to IJV revascularization techniques in these patients; however, stenting carries a high complication rate, and symptom recurrence is common. Most neurointerventionalists should not be performing IJV stenting unless they have experience with these patients and understand technical nuances (stent sizing, anatomy, patient selection), which can maximize benefit and minimize risk.

Fundamental to the quality of life is assisting patients in relieving pain including at the end of life. Compassionate, effective, evidence-based pain care for the dying improves the quality of life for patients and may reduce distress and complicated bereavement in the loved ones witnessing this death. However, efforts designed to mitigate the consequences of the opioid epidemic have seriously compromised pain care at the end of life. ⋯ This statement was then endorsed by the respective organizations. Elucidation of barriers to effective pain control in advanced disease allows targeted interventions; including those related to clinical care, education, accessibility, and research. As nurses, we must continuously advocate for humane and dignified care, promoting ethical, effective pain and symptom management at the end of life for all.
