In 2018, a group of Irish emergency medicine (EM) trainees recognised their common interest in collaborative research and the difficulties that trainees can encounter when trying to broaden their research capacity, prompting the beginning of the Irish Trainee Emergency Research Network (ITERN) journey. Trainee-led collaboratives have been shown to be feasible and have the potential to deliver impactful research projects, generating an evidence base that may not have been possible without collaboration. This article describes the successes and achievement of ITERN and describes the processes and challenges that a trainee-led research network can encounter. The authors believe that trainee-led collaboratives can deliver powerful and impactful research for patients and broaden the research capacity of individuals, hospitals, and groups of healthcare professionals.

Implicit bias poses a barrier to inclusivity in the health care workforce and is detrimental to patient care. While previous studies have investigated knowledge and training gaps related to implicit bias, emergency medicine (EM) leaders' self-awareness and perspectives on bias have not been studied. Using art to prompt reflections on implicit bias, this qualitative study explores (1) the attitudes of leaders in EM toward implicit bias and (2) individual or structural barriers to navigating and addressing bias in the workplace. ⋯ This qualitative analysis of reflections from an arts-based workshop highlights perceived fears and barriers that may impact EM physicians' motivation and comfort in addressing bias. These results may help guide interventions to address individual and structural barriers to mitigating bias in the workplace.

The significance of physician leadership to help transform the healthcare system has been increasingly discussed. This study looked at the qualities of emergency medicine (EM) physicians that support or inhibit their work as healthcare leaders. ⋯ As physician leadership is explored as a mechanism to support the healthcare system's success, this project provides insights into the realities experiences by EM physicians and considerations for healthcare professionals as they encourage physicians into leadership positions.
