Hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) caused by Klebsiella pneumonia (KP) is a common nosocomial infection (NI). However, the reports on the economic burden of hospital-acquired pneumonia caused by Klebsiella pneumonia (KP-HAP) were scarce. The study aims to study the direct economic loss caused by KP-HAP with the method of propensity score matching (PSM) to provide a basis for the cost accounting of NI and provide references for the formulation of infection control measures. ⋯ KP-HAP prolonged LOS and increased hospital costs, and HAP caused by ESBLs-positive KP had more economic losses than ESBLs-negative, which deserves our attention and should be controlled by practical measures.

This study aimed to investigate the clinicopathological features and the survival outcomes of neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC). ⋯ NEPC is extremely rare but the incidence of NEPC has been increasing in the past years. The prognosis of NEPC is poor because most cases are diagnosed at metastatic stage. The patients with metastases are typically treated with chemotherapy and chemotherapy shows survival benefits in both regional and distant metastatic tumor patients.

Nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) is a heterogeneous disease with multiple subtypes. NCSE poses great diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to the lack of typical symptoms. Here, we report a case of NCSE manifesting as rapidly progressive dementia (RPD) and infarction in the splenium of the corpus callosum. Additionally, the relevant literature was reviewed. ⋯ NCSE manifesting as RPD and infarction in the splenium of the corpus callosum is extremely rare. Epileptic events and focal infarction are usually overlooked in patients with dementia, and the diagnostic value of MRI and EEG should be highlighted.

Thymic adenocarcinoma is an extremely rare thymic carcinoma. The exact genetic alteration associated with thymic adenocarcinoma is unclear. Here, we report a case of thymic adenocarcinoma accompanied by type A thymoma and pulmonary minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA). ⋯ Thyroid transcription factor 1 (TTF-1) was positive in this case of thymic adenocarcinoma, which indicated that a thymic adenocarcinoma with TTF-1-positive may not necessarily be a metastasis of lung or thyroid adenocarcinoma. The positive staining of CD5 and CD117 can help us to confirm the thymic origin. Molecular genetic analysis indicated that these tumors harbored different mutations. The thymic adenocarcinoma and type A thymoma both had the mutation of KMT2A, but the mutation sites were different. KMT2A mutation may be a common genetic change in thymic tumorigenesis. The genetic alterations disclosed in this study will help expand the understanding of thymic tumors.

Multiple arterial and venous thromboembolism in a male patient with hereditary protein C deficiency: A case report.
Hereditary protein C deficiency has a high prevalence in Asian populations, being the important risk factor associated with thrombophilia. Traditionally, conservative medication is the first choice for patients with hereditary protein C deficiency. However, there are few reports on whether aggressive surgical treatment can be performed when patients continue to develop life-threatening ischemic symptoms after adequate anticoagulant and thrombolytic therapy. ⋯ Aggressive surgical treatment may be the effective attempt for life-saving when conservative treatment as the first choice had unsatisfactory results in hereditary protein C deficiency patients. The novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) could be more suitable than warfarin for the treatment and prevention of recurrence in patients with hereditary protein C deficiency.
