Case Reports
The First Fatal Post-COVID-19 Adult Patient with Multi-System Inflammatory Syndrome in Israel.
Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is recognized as a respiratory illness, which includes pulmonary consolidations, hypoxemic states, and hypercoagulopathic tendencies with a broad clinical severity. Recently, more reports have described post-infection manifestations. These include multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) with more than 400 cases published since the start of the coronavirus disease pandemic. ⋯ S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published 27 cases [1] describing the new multi-system inflammatory syndrome in adults (MIS-A). Nine of the cases were reported directly to the CDC, 7 from published case reports and another 11 patients found in three distinct case series.

Polyarthritis is defined by the palpable synovitic swelling of more than 4 joints. Polyarthritis is always due to a systemic disease and not a local process. ⋯ It is also important to differentiate arthritis from osteoarthrosis. The objective of this paper is to give an overview on patient history, clinical presentation, diagnostic investigations and the differential diagnosis of the most common diseases that present as polyarthritis.

Observational StudyEffects of Preoperative Statin on the Frequency of Ventricular Fibrillation and C-Reactive Protein Level in Patients Undergoing Isolated Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.
To investigate the effects of statin use in preoperative period on the development of ventricular fibrillation (VF) following the removal of aortic cross-clamp (ACC) and on the levels of inflammation biomarker C-reactive protein (CRP) in patients who undergo elective isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). ⋯ Preoperative statin use significantly reduced VF development after the removal of ACC, and decreased postoperative CRP levels. Key Words: Coronary artery bypass grafting, Statins, Pleiotropic effect, Ventricular fibrillation, C-reactive protein.

Incidence and trends of ophthalmic cancer in Singapore: Data from Singapore Cancer Registry.
Limited data are available on the incidence of primary ophthalmic cancers worldwide. We describe the incidence and trends of primary ophthalmic cancers in Singapore. ⋯ Our study reported the incidence and trends of ophthalmic cancer in the Singapore population and showed an overall increase in ophthalmic malignancies in Singapore from 1996-2016. A substantial increase in lymphomas over the last 2 decades was noted. The data could aid clinicians, epidemiologists and policymakers in implementing strategies to address trends in ophthalmic cancers and spur aetiological research to improve quality of life in patients with such cancers.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a frequent and potentially fatal disease, but its pathophysiology is incompletely understood. microRNAs (miR) dysregulate hemostatic proteins and influence thrombotic pathology by posttranscriptional regulation of gene expression. Consensus in defining VTE-related miR clusters and functionally relevant miR has not been reached. We aimed to generate a miR database in patients at high thrombotic risk of VTE and explored their biological functions by seeking information on their messenger RNA targets. ⋯ We provide evidence of distinct, independently validated miR signatures in patients with VTE and identified a subset of miR as main regulators of messenger RNA involved in disorders related to pathophysiologic processes in venous thrombosis development.
